Aramp1 is doing a Detroit, I think it's BHayes (maybe BHales) that's done a really nice 4BT in a K5.
Well the name is Bhays, but I am not sure he did one, but there are a couple that have done it, some are just passers by this site that have a thread about them, they all seem to hang out more on 4BTswaps for some reason:rolleyes:

kewl...this video is a huge selling point, IMO.

Watch how he just idles up the trail....:doah:

The world of mega torque, and governors. Love it.

Agreed. I went on a TLCA run on the rubicon with a friend and a few guys had big Toyota's with 4bt's. Those little suckers just chugged right along on the trail.

The obnoxious and distracting loud clatter and vibrations of a Cummins 4 cylinder alone would turn me off even if it got 50 MPG. I scored a 2005 Cummins 4BE a few years ago and thought about putting it in a Ram Charger or K5 but flipped it to some guy that bolted it into a Toyota Land Cruiser. IMHO, Cummins 4 bangers are much neater when someone else owns them. Too damn loud and shaky for my tastes. I’ll take my 550 lb ft of torque in the form a late model fuel injected big block gasser thank you.

No. No, no, no, no. That's someone on youtube 100% lying or a 1 time downhill, downwind (in neutral) run for 50 miles. Square body trucks and diesels are the worst vehicles possible to run at high speed (at least as far as efficiency is concerned), drop 25 mph off of that and I'd believe it on a 2WD.

I'm not sure there's anyone that lies more about fuel efficiency than Cummins owners, who knows why. I get 13-15 daily driving 7 miles each way (barely warms up by the time I'm there), 20 mpg all highway (84 single cab K30, '93 6BT/G360, 4.10's and 37's) and have seen 12-14 towing ~7K.

Could a 4BT get 26 mpg under just the right circumstances in an old Chevy truck? Absolutely, but I can guarantee that's not at 85 mph.

Why? In my experience, wheeling a diesel is kind of a PITA. Before I put a gear reduction box in my Blazer one of the best things about it's setup (Carb'd 350/383, 465 and 205) was that I could use the brake to draw the RPM's down when I needed to slow down, even dropping to 400-500 RPM. IMO that's one advantage to a stick that is overlooked, auto's can't do that.

The reason I don't really like the diesel is because it pushes you and won't let you drop RPM's like that. Sure, you won't kill a diesel, but you lose all of the finesse and control. Instead of allowing you to control the speed and throttle, it will force you to go faster than you want to on occasion.

My buggy will never use diesel and my tow rig will never use anything but diesel, they each have their place IMO.

A very good friend of mine drove a 4bt powered F100 ford. It was a 70 something with a 4 speed. His grandpa had built it decades ago. Another friend of mine bought it after high school and daily drove it. He reported mid 20's for mileage. It wasn't geared for much more than 75 though.

If I was to put one in a wheeler it would have to be a 6bt, either a 12v or a common rail. A trail rig with the powerplant of my Cummins tow rig would be badass, but not worth the weight penalty IMO.

Been behind a 4bt wheeler before and never again. Stinky, noisy, and blowing soot all over.

And i wasnt even in the rig.

I would love to have a 4bt in something.

I used to have a 3b diesel Landcruiser and it was awesome for 4x4ing underpowered but sweet torque.

Diesels are fun I don`t care what anybody says.

great points guys..thanks!

I'm definitely a diesel fan for my purposes. Super-reliable, super-easy on the battery (once running), cool running at low speed, fantastic trail mileage, highway mileage is better than a gasser equivalent, idle torque is great, no ignition system to get wet.

I kinda like the 4BT in particular, but the prices are thru the roof on the things. Bhays rig is a thing to behold.

I like the sound, too. I find it comforting :dunno:

Oh, and be it diesel or EFI gas, I will never not run some sort of fuel injection ever again.

Cool but not for me. I think it's loud, and I think it's an ugly looking little engine under the hood. :dunno: :D

With that little cummins purring away under the hood you'll rarely have to open the hood. A big change for most old smallblock owners. Worry not, you'd only have to look at it during oil changes!

I have had a 4BTA Cummins sitting on an engine stand for a couple of years now, still can't decide what I want to put it into. I think my Burb may be too big for it, certainly in stock form, but modded it might work OK.:dunno:

They are dogs in stock form for highway use...but you can juice 'em up pretty well and they'll take it.
