I've got a buddy that bought a miata to play with. He's got an error code that he wants me to help him fix but I don't know squat about these cars so I figured I'd see if anyone here could help. 
The code he's getting is this:
P1601 Powertrain Control Module Communication Line to TCM Error
The car used to be an automatic but someone swapped in a manual trans at some point. In looking for answers we found a few threads that said you need to ground pin 1O on the ECM so the car knows its a manual now. We did that and verified we're getting a good ground but the problem persists.
Any thoughts?
