I think thats what they are called. im talking about these offroad hunting, recreation vehicles like the polaris rzrs, rhinos and such. i dont know anything about then but i want one mainly for off road use, not to much of a work horse, just to play in the dunes and on trails. anyone know which ones are the good ones? or which brands are best? thanks guys

The polaris RZR is pretty badass. They are pretty darned fast for weighing 1000lbs. I would have bought one a long time ago, except that an RZR is too tall when in the back of my pickup to fit through my garage door, where my regular quad does. The only problem with them is the cost. An 800 RZR is around $13K and the new 900 is $18K+. IMHO, snowmobiles are WAY more fun than quads and you can buy the biggest baddest sled out there for about $11K.

I've got a Kubota RTV1100, it's pretty cool because it has a full cab and A/C, but it's not a toy, it's a farm tool since it only does 25mph. I put tracks on mine.

For the dunes they blow.
Money pits for small returns.
Topheavy, narrow and lack stability.
Needs more power too to be fun in the dunes. You had to really work at it to get up the big hills

It was fun in the mountsins in 4wd going over logs and up hills. This is were they shine.

If you wanna have fun in the dunes find a used mini sand rail.

This is my experience with a rzr that my buddy has.

i have been looking at them i like the kawasaki tyrex i think its like 50 something hp i don't know how much the rzr has but they do good in the mud i don't really like the rhino too slow

good to know. your buddy doesnt think they are all that great either? they seem pretty damn fast to me topping out at around 60. do they just not have any toque? does he have a 800-900 rzr?

Yeah he is a little dissapointed in it. He has the 900rzr.

They just are not ideal for dunes. Woods, and dirt trails, they can be fun. Major sketchy off jumps. Also it felt tippy to me, allthough i do drive like a madman, in the dunes.

You can drop thousands into a long travel kit and have it handle nice, then you still have the low hp motor. 85-90 hp is nothing in a rig that big, plus when you throw a passenger in it is VERY noticeable.

He has about 15k invested in his rig right now. Needless to say he is highly jealous of the hayabusa sand rail that im almost done with.

meh still a 1300lb+ log with only 85 hp.

Just to put it perspective, a 1,300 lb. vehicle with "only" 85 hp would be equivalent to a typical Blazer with a 400 HP engine in regards to HP to weight ratio........and would agree with that even a 400 HP Blazer would get eaten up in the dunes by most rails.

you can get a VW 4 seater rail for better $$
only problem is trailering them, vs the UTV.
I would go rail setup, or buggy.

If I could throw 150 hp motor in a UTV and back it up with a manual trans, then I'd invest in one.

I've got a 08 Rhino 700 and am really happy with it for what I use it for--mainly coyote hunting. I can get from one spot to the next far quicker and quieter while using less fuel then the K5 does.

For cruising the desert or the mountains it's great. I've never had an issue where I needed more power (would I like more? Yes) or felt that it was unstable...then again, I don't drive it like a complete maniac.

i just cant see me spending 12k on a glorified go cart. i like them alot but i want to spend like 5k

Used market.

FAR more to them than a go kart.
There's a bunch of Spec Ops RZR's with some cool **** running around here. NOT helping my desire to have one at all.

Wonder if you can order the special seats, lower roll cage with a pintle mount for a machine gun, and bedliner coating from Polaris...
