Anyone know why the serpentine water pumps don\'t have grooved pulleys?

They don't have any of the grooves on the pulleys of the new water pumps and I was just wondering why?

Re: Anyone know why the serpentine water pumps don\'t have grooved pulleys?

The backside of the belt rides on the pulley if it's smooth.

Re: Anyone know why the serpentine water pumps don\'t have grooved pulleys?

yeah, they are reverse rotaion pumps, so they turn the other way, and like he said, other side of belt turns them

Cool. Thanks never knew that before. How bout this, what are the 2 hoses coming from the water pump? I'd guess them to be 1/2" hoses, and what's the easiest way to get them off? Thanks again

Not to be too much of a smart ass, but I would say to pull them off. A small screwdriver stuck in the end to lever them off may help also.

I am assuming you took of the clamp, I use a plier and grab the outside with slight pressure and try and twist it loose then it comes of easy.
One time it wouldn't rotate so I pinched part of the hose and it broke loose and then the rest just broke loose when I twisted it.
If you didn't understand my explanation, PM me and I will put it in another way.

Lol, sorry shoulda been more specific. I took the hoses off, but the things under the hoses, I don't know what the heck to call them. The things the hoses clamped over, are they threaded or what? I'm guessing it was a line to something and and a return line back to it. I just don't know if I can actually get those off, of if I'll have to figure out how to plug them.

Re: Anyone know why the serpentine water pumps don\'t have grooved pulleys?

They should have a hex fitting on the bottom (near the pump) that you can get a wrench/socket on and they are threaded in (at least on most) and I believe they are NPT threads, so you can go down to your local hardware/plumbing supply store and get Pipe Plugs and some tephlon tape to put in there.

Why are you removing them (Heavy duty cooling)?

Sound like he might be changing out the pump and needs those fittings.

Re: Anyone know why the serpentine water pumps don\'t have grooved pulleys?

Napa should have the fittings no problem, or a plug to replace them if you're re-routing heater hoses. Just take the olde one in with you.
