I know this is the garage, but this does involve a little bit of "repair" so I figured it was the best place for it.

We've had one of those single cup coffee makers for a few years and it was ok for a while but for the past several months has been getting clogged right at the most inconvenient time (first thing in the morning). So I decided to use the skills I've been building up working on old trucks to try and repair this dumb machine once and for all. My wife helped me make this short video of the repair. Enjoy...

:haha:

We should start an appliance repair thread. Next appliance I have to "repair" I'll be taking vid and adding it here. :waytogo:

That's pretty funny. I really like mine. Had it three years with no problems.i tend to use the ten pound sledge on those pesky appliances that give me problems.

I categorically deny using my Blazer to similarly "repair" a few leftover items from ex-girlfriends/wives...

We've actually been using that same model for a few years. Got one at our house. And three at the office. Haven't had to "unclog" ours yet

By scaling the machine with my Blazer I was able to de-scale it.

Rather counterintuitive, but brilliant! :waytogo:

Wife has one. She runs CLR through it every other month or so. I have a Rancilio Silva machine and descale it once a month with powder descale. We also descale our dish washer every other month or so. You would be surprised how much that helps!

As you might imagine, I fix pretty much everything.
At our shop many years ago, we had a Mr. Coffee brewer. Unlike most normal humans, I don't drink coffee.
I get my caffeine fix from CocaCola.
So, when the machine started slowing down, it didn't bother me.

One morning I came in and there were 5 bleary eyed guys standing around the machine with cups in hand watching it drip into another one's cup.

I was informed that the machine would be fixed the next morning and I was elected, since everyone else had to go out on calls.

No problem, I grabbed the gallon of ice machine cleaner we had and ran a strong batch through.
No luck. Still slow.

Out came the tools.

Boiling chamber was clean, silicone hose was clean, right up at the top was a stainless steel plate with a small hole that the hot water dripped through.
There seemed to be something stuck in the hole.

I grabbed my magnifying headset and checked it out. Saw a rounded abdomen and a couple of legs.
It was the butt end of a small roach. All the rest had dissolved and gone into the various cups of coffee over the last week or so.

Being the kind soul I am, I waited until after everybody had had their first cup the next morning and had congratulated me on a job well done, before I told them that they had been drinking roach butthole coffee the last few days............

Descaling will save the heaters and hoses in them. I got rid of my Keurig. The coffee is mediocre at best- being ground months before, it is never a good cup by itself. The machines are cheaply made, that's why if you have a problem, keurig will almost always replace it for free. They make their big money on the k-cups.

Now I am a chemex man for life. Love that thing!

Use distilled water and you will never have those problems

Hey...you forgot to put your K-cup in...."Driveway Blend"...
:haha:
