Anyone made door opening inserts?

I "borrowed" a members photo to photoshop a door opening insert on to. Just like the International Scouts have. Has anyone made custom door opening inserts for doorless trucks? I was going to experiment with fiberglass and make a set for my Blazer.

I just don't want to reinvent the wheel without checking with you'all first in case someone tried this already.

Thanks...Rick

Rick,

I've never seen a Blazer with a "Bronco-looking" door mod like that.... I've seen plenty of 1st Gens with simple tube doors though.

Depending on what resources you have at your disposal, it might be just as easy to make that with some sheetmetal and an old door.....fiberglass sounds like a hassle, unless you're already accomplished with it.

Either way, post up some pics if you decide to try it. I'd be curious to see how it looks....

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to slide over to find a site for International Scouts and locate a Scout with the fiberglass half-doors. I want to inspect the inside portion to see what structure it has and how they mount. From some that I've seen online, they are bolted or screwed to the bodey. Well...there is now way that I would screw the insert in to my Blazer body. I'm looking towards using the existing bolts to mount it.Anybody make tube doors for first-gen Blazers?I also am searching for six point roll cages, or commonly called "family roll cages" for my truck.Thanks...Rick

I've made tube doors before....pretty simple to do. Again, it all depends on what resources you have available. I've got the tubing bender, welder, plasma cutter, etc.... so pretty much if I can imagine it, I can build it.

I have a decent set of photos in my gallery link for a 1st Gen rollcage I'd built a while ago. As far as I know, there are no "off the shelf" cage kits for 1st Gens. S&W makes a generic one, but there's still a lot of cutting, fitting and welding to make it work. Basically all it saves you is having to bend the tube yourself.

When it comes to that kind of stuff it always seems like no matter what vendors offer, people want something slightly different anyway so it's no surprise that cages & tube doors are always a full-custom job when you do see photos of them.

friend has those scout inserts he's putting into his traveller. He was trying to get me to see if they would fit on the k5. If I get to his place before he puts them on I'll hold them up to it

The IH ones came on the SS model of the Scout II from 77 to 80. They are sheet metal screwed to the body. Look cool but a pain in the ass to get in and out...

Spent a few minutes looking through my files and here is one pic I have found so far. Looks like someone scanned the pic from a magazine. I'm gonna do some more looking as it seems like I may have seen one more similar to this.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about!!!

It looks like the quarter and door are all one piece in the photo. I wonder if it is a fiberglass tub? That look is what I was after.

I also saw a CUCV Blazer with the door cut out. The owner told me that the door was cut and then braced.

I wish it wasn't such a crappy photo/scan. Almost looks like maybe a line behind the door, but just can't tell for sure. Can't really see a jam line between the front fender and door either. Never heard of a fiberglass tub being produced, but heck, anything is possible.

I was searching the net and found that usbody.com has fiberglass tubs, hoods, doors, and other nice stuff for first and second gen Blazers. Check their site out.

I was looking at their doors and how I could possibly notch one out. I may simply make some sort of cover to go over the door jam to hide the hinges and striker. A clean look is what I'm after.
