Wanting ot do a CB here for my 4x4 setup. Recommendations on how to wire, secure it, and an idle model (even if older).

I made a bracket for the cb and mounted it to the front of the console. I still need to mount the holder for the mike.

The wiring was run under the carpet directly to the back of the cb.

You'd have to find a pretty small radio, I'm not sure a 19 would even fit there.

I have an old 23 Channel Midland mounted to the roof/ceiling.
I've gone from This old Midland, to an older side mic Cobra 29, and back to the old Midland, It can pick up anything, anywhere, as clear as day with my Wilson 2000 Center load.

Also, Wheels, you need to give me that mic, I want an Astatic so bad it's not funny.

(well two Astatics, one for the Blazer, one for the Dodge)

It depends on how much work you want to do. If you want to use the in-dash radio slot, your options are limited. I'm working on this process right now. I'm using a Cobra 18 WX ST II, which is DIN-sized and has a front-firing speaker. I'm trimming the dash and using a single DIN stereo conversion kit (Metra 87-99-3052), and a support sleeve. So far everything is lining up real nice. Now this Cobra is an entry level radio, but good enough for my needs. It's about the only model still on the market that's the right size. I'm using a Highliner to mount my stereo, hence the open dash space. Since the Highliner requires you to cut out your own space, you could also mount a CB up there I guess, but not a large one.

Overall, unless you absolutely have to have it in the dash, the front of the console is probably the easiest spot.

I installed a Realistic 40 channel CB in the A/C duct opening in the dash thats above and just to the right of the ash tray...however,my truck did not have factory A/C,so if yours does, and probably will being a "southern" truck, you would lose one duct if you installed it there..

There are some newer CB's that are small enough to fit in the ash tray spot...
Uniden's and Cobra's,some have the weather bands also..

I had a Regency police scanner mounted right under the ash tray in one of my trucks, but I didn't like how hot the heater got it..I liked the one I hid inside the console best,it was out of sight so theives weren't tempted--but it hogged up most of the space in it and limited what I could put in there..

Like I said I need it in the ashtray compartment. I'm going consoleless, this rebuild will be barebones for max room and easy rinse out after mudding/offroad.

So have you already found a CB small enough to fit in the ashtray compartment?
