Anyone not happy with 14ff disc brake swap?

Just wondering if anyone is NOT happy with their 14ff disc brake swap and regrets doing it? How about guys who haul heavy loads?
 
Love mine, towing was better and then i added hydroboost. Braking while towing is a breeze now.
 
My braking is much improved, but the e-brake doesn't work worth a crap. My custom cables were too long and don't hold well. I have to re-work them.
 
I have heard about alot of people fragging their master cylinder during the swap, has there been a method discovered to keep this from happening, or a reason why this happens? I ask because I already have hydroboost and dont want to have to buy another one bc of a learning curve.

I am very happy with mine. Lighter, more clearance, better stopping, and they look cool:laugh: I didnt have any problems with the stock M.C.
 
Never drove on the drums. Mine stops 40's great. Only towed once and braking was fine.

Only reasons I can think is that it was a master on its way out, and bleeding -- required to put the rear calipers on, duh -- finally wore it out.

Now, as to 14BFF disc conversions, having done two, the only observation I have is that if you're gonna use Eldo calipers, get ones rebuilt by somebody you trust. The average parts store ones -- when you can find them -- are often suspect. Or bite the bullet and get the ones from TSM.

I did this a while back and love them. Used the stock mc and made no other mods. I just filled the calipers up before i put the lines on.

As far as braking power.. It is amazing, my truck stops incredibly quickly for having such a large wide tire. Even locked all 4 on dry pavement when I tried.

The only thing that was strange is how soft the pedal was when I finished. It felt like there was still air in the lines when I was done bleeding it but I took it for a drive anyway and it was great. The pedal was soft but they worked really well and you could not press the pedal to the floor. They would lock just before it. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but I just got used to it. Just a different feel.
But anyways, I would say go for it. It works great, Looks cool, and isnt too expensive.:D
 
my pedal also got really soft, but the brakes work great... im using my stock 1/2 ton MC also....but i lost my ebrake in the swap, which was worth it in my opinioin.


sometimes if im towing quite a bit, like pulling a car/truck on a trailer it feels like they could be better, but it is the same way with our powerstroke at work...just my imagination for sure. it's definately safe, i just nitpick i recon'.

def a great swap and worth every penny....also, when your done muddin, you hose em out and on yoru way you go...no pulling wheel/tire/drum/etc. off.....
 
I think the soft pedal is due to the fact that the rear calipers require more volume than the stock disc/drum mc is designed for.
