I have a 78 k5 with a th350/203 and I'm going to install a stage 2 700r4 and want to know if anyone is running a 205 with theirs. Or should I just run the 203 or maybe a 208? Mainly a daily driver with some off road but nothing extreme.

You will have to have the tranny built with a shorter output shaft from advanced adapters to run a 205 or 203

or you can add the fitzall adapter.. that's the way I went, helps with the front shaft clearance too..

I personally prefer gears over a chain any day...

I have this setup. You'll need the spacer, I heard the cv on the front shaft gets close to the trans pan with the short shaft. Plus more front shaft length was important to me. I got my spacer from ORD. You'll need a 205 and adapter from behind a th350, as well as the drive sleeve. Pm me for questions or pictures or anything you need.

ORD told me their spacer wouldn't require any shaft modification, but I hoisted it into position and it wouldn't seat....still had to trim it about 1/4". Not a big problem, just don't forget.

Thanks for the help. If I have any issues, once I decide to pull the plug, I will give you a holler.

For a more extreme application I'd fully agree. For a mild dd/light trail use I think a 208 would be more than adequate. I've seen some 208s hold up to some pretty extreme abuse. Plus it's lighter, which may or may not matter to the op.

Yep, I vote the 208 as well. Easier to install and plentiful to replace. If you don't need the 205 strength, the 208 is plenty strong. I hope so, my 241 sees lockers and 38s :) Only thing you'll have to deal with is mounting a shifter and linkage. That stuff can be had for free :D

I went through a 208 and 241 before I swapped to the 205, didn'tdo much wheelin before it got parked but haven't broken it like the previous cases

Aluminium chain drive cases aren't for everyone. Some can run them on 44s and high horsepower rigs, then there's me I guess.

I'm going to go with the 205. I want to build a "bomb proof" rig as much as possible. Also going to swap axles at the sametime to the 14 bolt/ Dana 60. Running 36s. What gears would you run in this setup?

An NP208 is superior to an NP205 in every way except for brute strength.
