anyone running a detriot on the street...

My wife daily drove the K5 with a Detroit for around a year. Outside of the tires wearing out quicker, I have no complaints.

I hardly notice my Detroit on the street. Only when I get on the gas around a corner does it remind me it's there. I have never had it "unload" or make the loud bang, but I have a LWB and auto tranny.

I try to notice my detroit by getting on the gas but the 350 with 4.10s and 37s tells me to **** off and it just turns the corner like normal .

Autos do have less banging then the manual trannies, thats because when on the gas the auto shifts quick and the detroit doesnt unload. I have a full manual valve body on my truck and in between shifts I get off the gas because the full manual is such a violent shift. But occasionally Ill get a pretty good detroit bang, normally I just look at my passengers smile and keep driving.

I have damn near the same set up as you and mine let's me know it's there around corners.

mine isnt a dd but has unloaded on me a few times... yes the first time is NERVE RACKING... and yes... like a grenade going off in your axle.... (Like we have all sat back and put grenades in axles then drove them around )

oh yeah... smc465 here too.. no other way other than a nv4500 I tellz ya


if you are going to wheel your truck I say do it.. I got detroits front and rear....

when we go wheeling.. I watch people line up at a watery mudhole and punch it.. they do the 1 legged wonder... rooster the sheit out of everything then go through..... (yes in just 2wd...).... I line up and hammer it and launch like a jet plane on the flight deck...


all in all... if I had to remove all my upgrades and only keep 1... I would have to keep the detroits.... to me they are the first upgrade to EVER DO!!!! 4.56's were stock in my truck so that isnt an upgrade

I've had the detroit in mine for about a month now. I don't even notice it anymore. Everyonce in a while I'll chirp the tires on a tight turn but other than that it's not even noticable. I'm just waiting for winter--to see what it's like. Every now and then I can't help but stomp on it and slide the whole truck around a corner.

what does it mean when it does the unloading BANG just about every time you put the truck into gear, mostly reverse when turning outta my driveway or parkingspot, it will also randomly do it in drive when going about 10mph.. basically every single time as well.

The bang when putting it in gear is simply the slop in the locker (plus axle splines, etc). The bang while driving is the locker re-engaging after having unlocked at some point.

so even when it does that every single time i start to back out or idel along, its ok? not gonna blow up anytime soon, i only ask this cuz i've been driving the axle w/ detriot in it for about 6 months and this only started the last month.

Since it's new you might want to pull the cover and just check it.

That said... mine has those very same symptoms and is almost 19 years old.
