Anyone running a Mico brake?

Seems like they were on every spud and grain truck from the 70s and 80s. Medium duty. Mostly 10 wheelers

you can get single and twin line units . also add on box for the back that will sound horn or what ever you wire in if pressure drops .

dangerous if you want to use it for a park brake. not worth the risk in my opinion.

I have had a ball valve from HD on my va I e brake line for years. Would not trust it over night. But for when I need it wheeling, it has worked great.

sure we are talking the same thing ?

these have been around for years and used heavy in big stuff / towing / and equipment stuff.

I would trust one of these over a line lock drag racing kit any day . I know guys have had good luck with line locks from the drag racing stuff and no fail's yet I have read . but there made for short bursts .

these are made for every day stuff.

Mico locks work really well for short term use in heavy trucks and allow you to lock up all 4 wheels when loading/ unloading, etc to create a stable platform. They also are great in our 4x's when you want to lock up specific wheels, etc and plumb in 2 or more.

The mico locks themselves don't fail it's all the other brake components that do when subjected to long term high pressures. Calipers, cylinders and even the lines just aren't meant to have that much pressure on them for very long. You will probably never see a failure using a mico but I still wouldn't use one as a substitute for a parking brake.

Most state inspections wont allow a hydraulic e-brake at all anyway...has to be cable or mechanical ...

I used them quite often when I drove wrecker. We had them on the older one ton, then on the 4x4 medium duty. The electric was easy to install, but, back then, you had to step on the pedal hard to release them. If you couldn't get them to release that way, you had to crack a brake line to get some of the pressure out. I would do it on a four wheel disc wheeler. As ktm said, don't trust it overnight, but works for short term.

I noticed that you didn't say what you would want it for........... Or are you just curious????

I was just curious if anyone on here was running one. I use the electric ones on grain trucks all the time. A lot more expensive, but I feel they would work better/longer than the cheapo line locks.

I currently have no park brake on my '90 K5, so this would be an improvement if I were to install one.

I think you are using your head there, as that would be a HUGE improvement! And you may be correct that Mico would be better made than linelocks. If you had the coin, install 2! Lock all 4 tires! Cuz I know you are Martin the millionaire!

don't need 2 units.

they make a 2 line unit for just this application . If I recall I have seen them before.

I'm also using a ball valve that I mounted in the dash. I think its intended purpose is to turn off the right front brake in sprint cars or something like that. Works great with no leakage, and there's pretty much nothing to fail (at least in the valve).
