Just need some opinions, I know folks are doing it. Older camaro's and trucks. I wonder about the rpm distance between the gears. Also some idea of fuel mileage. I'm currently looking for a 5.3L to put into the K-20. Don't want to swap the transmission just yet but when I do it will be a manual. I'm running 4.10 gears

Dew it.. it doesn’t care if you are running 2800 all day long it’ll be fine and get decent Mileage still. Prob 12-14

I'm interested in this as well. I'm looking at swapping a 5.3 or 6.0 into my 71 but am currently running a SM 465/ NP 205. I too am worried about excessive RPM but an NV 4500 may be too much money at first so I will most likely keep the current set up until I can afford a 5 speed. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

My build I have the 465/205 combo and 4.10 gears. I have surplus 37"s that measure like 35/36". I swapped using off the shelf parts. Ls2 pilot bearing, 6.0 flywheel, and ORD(advanced adapters) motor mount plates. Pilot bearing and flywheel depend on the year of engine you use.

RPM between gears is like 500. It's super driveable as a 3 speed. 1st gear is great for pulling Stumps. I'm 3000rpm are 80mph and will cruise 85-90 mph all day. I drove from Slc to Vegas averaging 90 with no issues and getting 12-13mpg. I regularly spin it up to 6500 rpm and it shift okay at that speed. Not great since the trans has so much rotating mass.

Over drive would be nice and will happen some day. But not a high priority.

@TreeFarm I just read your entire build thread, that is awesome and pretty much exactly what I want to do with my 71 K5. Thanks for giving me hope!

It's not hard man. Pretty much a bolt in swap. Only things that you really need to make is the exhaust and wire harness. Plenty of online resources for the harness. I think it's lt1swap.com that has instructions. There are also YouTube videos walking through it. My harness only has 4 wires that connect to the truck.

Will 5.3l headers for a 99ish truck fit with the engine swap? The guy with the engine has a brand new set that I can get with it.

I'm using hooker block hugger. I have no idea if stock truck headers work. I took mine off before even trying

These are aftermarket headers for the truck I just can't remember the maker. They hug the block pretty tightly.

The biggest problem with headers is going to be clutch linkage. If they clear that or you have a hyd clutch they may work
