Just started getting the 2-3 shift flare in the 700R4 last night, that's currently behind a weak SBC. I was hoping it would live at least a little bit after I got the 454 in, but alas, seems to not be the case...so looks like the 4L80E upgrade is coming sooner than planned.

As I'm running a carb now, will be running a carb on the 454, and have no plans of going EFI any time soon, I'll also be looking at manual control of the 4L80E when it goes in. Yes, I know all about the benefits of EFI, and did full motor swaps in my Scout, Samurai, and Nova just to get EFI in those. I have my reasons for staying with a carb in the K5, and I'll leave it at that. Yes, I know all about how much it sucks to manual shift an auto on the street..I'm running a TCI FMVB in the 700 now.

Found the Transgo 4L80E-3 kit on Summit for $250, which seems like the cheapest option, short of some redneck shiat like that guy on YouTube that's shifting his trans with a pile of house style light switches on the dash :haha:I have an Art Carr shifter in the K5 now that I plan on keeping, and will not be replacing with light switches, lol. The only other options I've found thus far are considerably more expensive, and include a trans brake which I don't need.

I've been researching these for a while, and see a lot of issues with delayed shifts, but they're all seemingly in drag cars with guys shifting at 6000+, which I'll never see. I'm generally shifting the 350 around 3500rpm, and I don't see the 454 going much above 5000. So I'm wondering if anyone is running this setup in a 4x4/trail truck, and if the same issues have popped up?

I used it. Works good, better than the bypass wiring because it uses a modulator to adjust line pressure. Decide on what converter you want because they offer different kits for lockup vs non lockup and the oil pump is changed accordingly.

This all being said, I would go find a 0411, cut all the engine wiring out of it and use it as a standalone because it's about a 1/10 the cost of that ripoff stuff they sell, and costs 100$ in credits to modify one single time .

Didn't know about the 0411 option, and aside from getting a crank trigger and TPS mount on the carb (not sure how I'm going to do that on the Edelbrock..) , it at least appears to be a solid option. Does it still allow starting and holding any gear at any RPM?

change the program any time you wish .
store and shift on the fly 4 completly differnet shift programs .
padel shift capable .
can do 4x4 low/low/low like a 3 speed t-case setup .
can do compression braking in more than 1 gear unlike factory .
tons of options . NOT just a stupid little controler box .

but hay its up to you .

Which is all fine and dandy if one is looking for auto control... Which I'm not, and as I said, I'm keeping the Art Carr shifter, so paddles mean absolutely nothing to me. Not to mention they're a gimmick at best on anything other than a dual clutch gearbox. Just like the manumatic mode on my Cadillac.

I run the Quick4 with my Art Carr and it works really well. The best part is if you are manually shifting gears with the shifter it will lock up the torque converter in any gear but 1st. I think there's a kit you can install that will allow lock up in 1st gear as well. Biggest selling point for me was it's ability to handle the different gear ratios of a 4spd transfercase. The Quick4 has a ton of tuning options and many of them deal with manual shifting as well.

There are a couple of TPS kits you could use:

I'm sure there are others as well.
