Ok guys, I'm new to this forum and have been doing a lot of searching but have had very little results. I have an 86 k10 truck with 14bolt rear dana 60 front and am currently running 4" lift with 35's. I was wondering if anyone might be running a diy 4" shackle flip with BDS 4" Springs in the rear and BDS 8" springs in the front. I am considering this set up but not sure what size tire to run. I do mostly mud but like the idea of having some decent flex. I dont want to do any fender trimming if possible. Was thinking about running 38's but I may step down to the 36x13.50x16.5 Irocs. As most people know they actually are taller than the Iroc 37x14x16.5. Also If anyone is running this type of set up, I am currious how much money I should expect to tie up in driveshafts. I dont really want to do the front spring swap to longer springs either, I would like to just go with the stock spring locations. Thanks for any input.

Ok, does anyone have 8" front springs that are stock length, with no body lift? If so, what size tire do you run?

My buddy, Carl, is running a Sub on 8" lift front springs with 37x13.50 tires, but trimmed a lot. The heavy trimming was to get max flex. Longer bumbstops would mean no trimming but less fun.

I dont see me needing the "mad flex" many guys are running due to the relatively flat ground down here in south Alabama, but I would like to get a little bit more than your regular joe has with a basic lift. Planning on using the f250 shock towers also. If I need fender trimming in the future, I will address it then. This truck is street driven and I would like it to have good road manners as well as good offroad capabilities. In theory this will be a truck you can use offroad but when its all done, can be cleaned up to look good again.

I know a guy that runst the 4" BDS with the 4" shackle flip and he loves it. He did alot of mods to the front to get better angles. Remember that a 4" flip and a 4" spring will only get you 6" of lift. The shackle flip only lifts one end of the spring so the 4 only equals 2" overall.

86chevred1tun, I just realised you are in Mobile. Welcome, it's nice to have another local on the board! do you post on any of the local boards?

Nvrenuf, Nice to meet ya.

Leper, I think ORD's site describes using a longer shackle to acheive the 4" lift. They show 2 options, a 2.5"lift and a 4" lift. They advertise this as a way to rid the 4" blocks so I assume it would give 4"s of lift.

Fwiw, I have a 2.5" ORD flip on my K5 and I got the full 2.5" from it. I think the flips are designed to give the full amount of lift advertised.

Holler at me if I can help with anything. Also watch the regional forum here, every now and then we'll do an area will get together.

I'll do that! Just got finished looking at your pics. I like that k10! I think I have seen it on another site once before.

You've probably either seen it on Lockitupoffroad.net or (way back...) on Mobileoffroadextreme site but that's gone now. I wish I still had it but cancer got the best of it, too much playing in P'cola swamps - real salty water/mud.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Gotta watch the salt down here, we used to play in Bayou La Batre some and that always worried me. I am pretty sure I saw it on lockitupoffroad.net

If you're not already be sure to sign up there. Sometimes they seem like a nasty bunch but they're really good guys. My user name there is different, I use my real name (john sweet). LIU isn't big on mud but they do hold the key to a lot of places to wheel locally.

It's ok about the K10 dying, it forced me to move on and my "new" K5 project is turning out to be pretty interesting. Lots of stuff I never even considered on my K10.

How do you get "mad flex" with stock length 8" lift springs?
That was MAX flex, but whatever. We extended his bumpstops about 2.5 inches and it stuffs to the bumpstops. Also rides better than the 4 inch springs he had on there before. Don't know who made the springs since we pulled them off a parts truck.
