I love my burb, but that long ass is always dragging.

The chopped burbs are cool, but it seems as though everyone makes it into a kind of crew/mega cab.

I like the barn doors and want to keep them, but chop it as short as I can go.

Is there anyone here that has done this, or seen it?

Any suggestions from those that have chopped their burbs?

Well one option i see is shotering the burb down to the blazer window length, which isnt much.

Second option would be having custom glass made, i think the glass is pretty flat so shouldnt be hard or costy, but not sure.

Third would be to make it a panel, aka get rid of the side glass altogether.

And no, i havent seen anyone do that on a square, ive seen a photo shop though. I did see someone do it to a 67-72 and called it a tahoe.

Be aware that the body is wider right behind the rear doors than it is at the tail (at least on square body burbs). The more you crop it, the more width difference you will be facing. A buddy tried to move top half of rear forward and install tailgate in bed so the electric window would still work. That's when we realized the width problem.:doah:
I wouldn't worry about window size or shape, since you can just use some Lexan panels cut to fit. Some silicone sealer and screws will make it just fine.:thumb:

glass companies can cut saftey glass and shape it. some will do it, some will say it cant be done. but I bet it isnt cheap if you find one that can do it. I've seen it done on tv. one of the custom shows but dont know which one:dunno:

I cut out 23.5" and when I scooted the rear up to the front part it was about 2" narrower. I had to cut the rear section into two weld it up and then ratchet strap it back together to weld it

WTF...It's like I was never here yesterday

or the day b4 that! HMMM...

I'll try to say it all again...

Glass: ha ha thanks for mentioning it, I'm not worried about looks, I am hoping the looks will be a bit of a theft-deterrent as well!

but am probably going to panel the rear window holes, or possible making a removable lexan window,

I am seriously considering having 2 rows of 2 buckets, then a bulkhead / wall behind the rear seats. I'll mount speakers to the front of it, and a tool cabinet on the rear, with a storage area for gear, etc... I am also thinking of mounting a fuel cell in this area as well.

WIDTH:
I am glad you guys mentioned that, I had kinda forgotten, its been a while since I read the burb chop threads! I've thought of three solutions, not sure which is most viable for me...

1) section and widen one or both of the doors, (I'm not so sure about this, I'd call my fab skills a 5 or so out of 10)

2) make filler panels that would be kind of angled or maybe curved (maybe I could run some exhaust stacks up along them to cover it up?...See aforementioned fab skills!

3) Make it a single rear door. Keep the right side door operational, but the left side stationary. I'm not real crazy about this, but it might be easier...Then I'd definitely build the bulkhead, and mount a crapper on the left hand side in the rear!

possibly extend the door that overlaps the other isnt it the right that over laps the left? Would keep both usable.

AHH, you're right! That's what I get for not actually looking at it and babbling **** around here!

The doors don't actually 'hook' together, they latch at the top and bottom...
SOO YEAH, I'd really only have to extend the right hand side door to meet the left!

downfall is you make a little more blindspot in the back. But would probably work. Be relatively easy to fab up to.

Blind spot,,HAHA

So when I got the burb there were like 10 of those freekin tree fresheners on there.

I was driving down the highway and they were bothering me blowing all around,

So I grabbed the lot of them and yanked, and pulled the rearview mirror right off! :eek1:

I drive a truck for a living, and am used to not being able to see right behind me, so I actually never put a new mirror back on!

that being said, I am considering adding a rearview camera anyway..

but dude THANKS for mentioning it!!

Thing about a project like this, if your skills are at a 5 this will challenge them. They will be closer to an 8 or 9 when you get done.

I will never do it (too many things to come before it) but I have always wanted to shorten a burb and make a full functional square tahoe basically.

Thanks for the encouragement!

This is my first real 4x4 (I'm over 30 years old!!) I've been messing around with cars, motorcycles, and 2wd trucks since I was 17. This is biggest project I've contemplated yet...

Like most, I always seem to be short of money or time! But never short of new projects!

1- the burb has gotta get back on the road, preferably before summer!
http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279183

2- the harley needs paint / some wiring / detail work...then maybe sell it for truck parts.

3- the mechanic that works on our trucks at work is going to give me a late 80's S10 p/u frame, cab, and 2.8 engine, tranny, and xfer case.

I am hoping to trade the eng, trans, and case for a 4.3 or 350, and make the s10 into a dedicated Tuff Truck. Then I wont be tempted to beat up the burb any worse!

4) THEN....I can start my ultimate burb build....Hopefully by then HowDiy will have tested out his homeade 4-link, and I can either copy his design or learn from his mistakes!
