Anyone successful in "coating" their SPID stickers?

At some point I'm going to paint my '68. When I do, I will be leaving the original blue on the inside of the glove box door. It also has the original SPID sticker. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to spray over the sticker to preserve it. I'd like to preserve the paint and sticker.

I've personally never painted over them but I have seen plenty of cars where they have painted them with clear. Sometimes it looks ok, and others it looks nasty. There was a company that reproduced them at one time, and they looked perfect.
