Hi All,

I am in need of new quarter panels and was wondering if anyone out there had any advice on the process or if it's just easier to have a body shop do it.

Can you guys break down what you did?

Pics would be great if you got em.

first gen, sec gen?

i've done a gazillion qrters over the yrs... 4 or 5 on K5's, including my current rig... somewhere in my novel of a build thread.... actually, towards the very beginning...

certain tools are essential.... air hammer, welder, various grinders, etc... if you've never done bodywork, probably not the best project to learn on.... depending on the year, a good portion of it is bolted in.... welded at the b and c pillar, but bolts to the bed and wheelwell..

as to where to buy em.. no clue, i got my aftermarkets at a swapmeet.. check the standard aftermarket tin suppliers, Goodmark, Classicparts, lmc, etc.... aftermarket qrters aren't as horrible as some of the other aftermarket pieces.... think i paid 200 a side for mine....

it can be done in a couple days by a proficient bodyman...

any questions, just ask...

I did mine a couple winters ago, and by no means was it a show quality body job. It's a pure trail truck and I dovetailed it while I was at it. Probably spent 5-6 days but that included rebuilding a severly tweaked B pillar, dove tail, and trimming the replacements to fit. Speaking of which I cut the quarters off of a junked truck. They were actually in pretty good shape as it had been Ziebarted and taken care of, but did require a decent amount of time trimming it down since they just cut the B-pillars and floor to remove them.

$3400 installed and painted at college (normally a $9000.00 job at a body shop, I had a couple quotes done to compare the prices)

College body shop-students did the job. Its not perfect but I'm happy with it. For the price, they exceeded my expectations.

As I said, turned out pretty good. Sorry if these cell phone pics aren't great, they're all I've got. I'm sure someone else has some better closeup shots of the process of removing those rear quarters (hint hint ryoken..)

I wouldn't say its easier to have a shop do it and this is why;the time it takes to make the money to pay the shop as compared to how long it actually takes to do the job.Its not rocket science.A no brainer for me and if you don't have the tools the cool thing is you will when your done and if you don't need them they can be sold.
