Just wondering if anyone is towing with a 2500 Avalanche with the 8.1? I am looking around for a tow rig, and even though they are fugly, I like the versitility they offer. I know it is a gas guzzler, but I only get about 13 mpg now, and don't have to drive far every day. Right now I have a Yukon( great for securing gear, bad for hauling big loads) and a extended cab pickup(great for hauling loads, not alot of room for gear) An avalanche would be a good compromise in my opinion. What are your thoughts?
PS I wold love a 2500HD Duramax, but they are way out of my price range for now....

A 2500 avalanche is basically a 2500 burb with some body mods when you start talking about towing. Which is basically a different body on a 2500 truck......so it will tow like a 2500.

My dad had a 2500 avalanche and we towed my blazer with it. It does tow, but the weight killed it. Its not meant to have weight on it, the back of the truck got really low. The truck rides really smooth with nothing in the back. You would have to put some kind of air bag system on it.

if you think 13 is guzzling gas wait until you pull with that 8.1l and only get 8! Look for a 3/4ton with a diesel. If you dont get hung up on driving a duramax the tried and true cummins can be found in used ie affordable state and will make you much happier when towing.
