I am getting rid of the 'hillbilly induction system' and putting a stock hood back on it because it might make it easier to sell and I am getting tired of the giant hood ornament. I am getting rid of the k&n velocity stack and would like a cheap but good looking filter on there in case I sell it (I still might keep it, it's hard to part with it:rolleyes: ). Has anyone used this kind of filter? I live in a pretty dusty environment so I don't know if the foam will filter good enough and I have heard they are prone to catching fire. Here's the link. Whatcha think?

Thanks.

My neighbor has one on his 87 chevy, with an edelbrock carb, and uses it every day for work. He has not had any problems.

I would reccomend this:http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_10366_-1

I TOTALLY vote against that air cleaner i ruined an engine with one of those. Several years ago i built a healthy small block and put it in a 85 buick regal and used that air cleaner. Well one day while blasting down the 1/4 mile at about 6500rpm it literaly sucked the foam air cleaner into the engine.
The result was not pretty. So NO dont use that air cleaner.

I will probably just get the el cheapo paper filter with chrome housing then, unless I can find a 9 inch housing deal for my 5" inch tall by 9" inch diameter k&n filter element. Otherwise, I"ll have to run the cheap paper element until I can afford a k&n element It sucks going back to stock setup. Oh well, I think the Jimmy will look better without the hillbilly ram air on it. But one thing I won't ever go back to( for good at least) is a non k&n filter. They are so much better.

Hey though, thanks for the heads up. My motor doesn't ever run at 6500 rpms but I do have some money in it. I jus like the old school-ness of that filter.

X2. I have seen 2 cars with them have a small backfire through the carb at the track. The foam absorbs the gas fumes and lights off like a candle. All that melted foam went right into the carb. Those things are nothing but trouble.

I like the stock truck ones with the tall air filter element. Lots of surface area + you can run a snorkel to the rad support so you get cool air. Since you can find one in a junkyard, you save like $40, so it's win-win-win.

I actually just got a job in a junk yard... the possibilities are endless  I might work there for a while before I ask for one he has piles of old rusty ones. That he wants big $$ for.
