Boy its slow in here! :)

Just started thinking again about tuning the truck, and was looking at the .ecu hack (hac). I'm trying to figure out exactly how this works. Apparently you can open it up in Tunerpro, but I don't have that available right now.

For those that don't know, while you can do stuff with tuning/burning software, some of the things remain "hidden" and you need to get into the .ecu to modify them.

One I know I need to deal with is the AIR divert O2 offset. Since TPI was designed with AIR working at all times, when it's commanded to the exhaust in closed loop, there is an offset for the O2 sensor, which will "see" the fresh O2, and think the engine is running lean. So since I'm not running O2, in certain conditions it's going to run lean with AIR removed. (this isn't an issue with TBI BTW).

I tried getting into this before, but I just didn't have the time to figure out the .ecu hack so I could modify the right data. I've driven the truck long distance the last few weeks, and I know there is more mileage to be had from it, plus more performance. 16MPG freeway is the best so far, right around 60-65MPH, but there has been audible pinging under certain conditions since I installed it. It's not that much, but it shouldn't be there at all. I've changed enough on the motor that I know I'm going to be lean and off timing by quite a bit at times.

What code are you using? Tunercat has an adjustment for rich/lean threshold reduction with AIR but that is for $8D, I don't know with $6e or $32 simply because I've never messed with them (I hate early MAFs).

Yeah, it's $6E.

From what I can tell, Tunerpro can do it, but just haven't been able to look into it myself. Seems odd to me that you can easily change stuff like the MAF scalars, but the O2/AIR offset is buried.

Agree on the MAF, but it's been pretty good to me. The plenum is from a MAP vehicle, so the good thing is when this and my spare MAF die, I can convert over. Not looking forward to trying to tune around the MAF however.
