Anyone with 32 spline yoke/flange info? (241 SYE "issue")

Got the JB SYE kit and put the t-case together. Passenger drop 241C, standard length SYE.

Had intended to use the spare 241C front flange on the rear output when done. Splines are right, not an issue. The issue is that there is 1.5" of spline on the shaft, and the flange has 2" of splines. It's enough that the nut can go on MAYBE halfway before the flange bottoms out on the bearing, so IMO it's a questionable setup. The dust shield is in place, and has at least a 1/4" before it would contact the t-case.

It's assembled correctly AFAIK. The SYE kit includes a new bearing with a "lip" on the inner race (that must face away from the flange), this is important to assemble properly as that would change how much spline area you'd end up with. I paid particular attention to this, so I am highly confident it is right. But it's the only component I can imagine that would affect this.

I compared with the front output shaft, with it's spline length plus rubber washer, it lines up almost perfectly with the length of the flange splines.

Are there other flanges/yokes out there with less spline engagement?
 
Kind of what I was thinking. But if GM decided ~2" was necessary for the front, cutting down the rear would seem a step down IMO.

The flange isn't in that good of shape anyway (seal grooves), so buying something else isn't a deal killer, but I want to make sure there isn't a problem with the part before I go with another flange. If everyone else is running these things with ~1.5" of spline engagement, guess I'm ok with it too. I just don't have any other yokes/flanges to compare with to see if there are different lengths of splines.
 
If you only have 1.5 inches of shaft spline then it seems that is as good as you will get. I agree that cutting yours down seems like an easy solution.
 
Are ~1.5" splined yokes/flanges pretty common on other applications? My 205 yoke looked to be about the same length, albeit different diameter.

I'm somewhat curious what tends to be more common, and if 2" is what the 241's used in the front, why JB would have settled on 1.5".
 
I would be inclined to think you are right, I'm hoping there are common applications where I can just get a new flange that is the proper length. Just hoping there are common applications out there to donate a flange.
 
I am pretty sure I had my yoke machined shorter. In fact, I was sure the instructions mentioned it, but it seems they have put a revised manual on their web site. The only thing I found was a mention in this thread.
 
Appreciate that. Don't recall running across that one in my searches, then again I never considered this was going to be an issue. 1/4" sounds about right once you factor in the rubber washer.
 
Another option is to run a High Angle Driveline flange, that can be drilled for 1350 CV yoke also. More better
 
Continued thanks to all who contribute ideas and experience.

Plot thickens. Found some 208 front flanges being sold that claim to be 3" in height. I measured the 241 flange I have, it is very, very close to 3.5". I've asked the seller whether that is the overall height (including the lip on the flange) and what the spline length is.

There is a guy on Pirate that did this with a 208 yoke, I'm suspecting/hoping the 208 is shorter/has shorter spline length. I happen to have a 208 flange in the garage, it's just attached to the transfer case full of ATF and in the truck at the moment. :) I could also look up the two part numbers, but that doesn't tell me specifics.

In any case, unless the ebay seller mis-measured, the 208 flange is shorter overall, since the lip on the 241 flange is less than 1/4" and the 208 lip appears similar.

I remember this too because I had the 1/4" milled off after reading the directions only to figure out the yoke High Angle Driveline sent me had already been machined down properly. Somebody had thought ahead, but it wasn't me.
 
The 208 front flange is the same 2 spline length.. Its just 2 inches shorter overall than a 241 front flange

2" shorter would mean it is 1.5" long, don't think you meant that. Unless you are talking the drivers drop IFS flanges, which are substantially longer than the passenger drop flanges.

But if the 208 flange is 2" spline length, won't help here. I really can't see running a used flange with decent grooves in it if machining needs done anyway, may have to start looking for new flanges.
 
Like it matters, but will offer closure to this thread I suppose.

Had the local place machine the stock flange down. He took it all out of the "inside", so it didn't move the location of the dust shield in relation to the case. He seemed to be real adamant on running the dust shield (I didn't care) but in any case, it's done.

$75. Whether my chosen path is stupid or not I guess I'll find out when all is said and done.
