i noticed a crack on the engine crossmember but im out of argon/co2 and fluxcore. no one is open today or tomorrow to get the stuff, so i have to wait till monday. is there anything i can do to the frame or other wise.

more info

i would update the crossmember to 85 up its stronger or make your own member. the 84 older units are pron to cracks.
if you have a tractor supply nere you thay sell botlle gas and welding supplys.:cool1:

im building a new one in the spring summer when i go crossover. id rather get the argon t the place i normally go to. they give me a lot better deal.

if you have a steering brace to install I recommend doing it now. Any trouble it may give you is easily dealt with when you can stand where the engine usually is. Thats how I did it on my Suburban, it was way easier than when I did it on my K5 with the motor in.

Had the same problem on mine, only noticed it once the engine came out.

As was suggested, update to an earlier crossmember. You'll see by looking at a newer one why they are better.

Easiest way to get them out I was shown is to drill through the rivets with increasing size drill bits, then just use a chisel to cut the remaining head off. I replaced the rivets with large bolts, I believe 1/2". I also had the upper bolts (think thats right) for the crossmember welded in place, so they became studs. That way no wrench needed inside the frame rail to tighten those bolts.

were you working on your truck this afternoon?i drove by to check it out but didn't have time to stop this weekend.kids/babysitting issues.there was ablack blazer sitting behind your truck.BTW,your truck looks tough, man.i hope to be able to check it out closer, though.

i didn't work on it at all today, too dam cold. the blazer is my dads.

i pulled the motor to fix the flexplate and a few other things and my cousin talked me into dropping my "other" motor in it  the motor that was in my truck im selling to my dad to replace his 305 in the blazer.

thanks for the compliment, stop by anytime.

While the engine is out would be a great time to do some little subtle things like ..........clean up the firewall , paint things , clean your heat/ac box out , new frame motor mounts etc . The other things already mentioned before like steering box brace etc :)

yea paint your engine while ya got it out for the extra BLING :)
You could take a pic of it while its out :D

its too cold to paint anything, tomorrow the high is suppose to be 15*. i get to work in the driveway also :(

but i am gonna clean the engine compartment, it needs it bad (thanks for reminding me paul) my other motor is all preaty orange and gold :pimp1: ill be sure to take pics :pimp:

Yep. Get a electric fan set-up when you put it back together and get back some horsepower like 20-30 ponies.:D

you could be buying steel tubes for my drive shaft!!!! LOL i'll be there soon:D i would look for any probs that can be fixed without the engine in the way. thanks for the heads up on working outside on my shaft. i work out side so i have the cool carharts. about another week and i'll be there.:)

Bummer it's so cold. If I had my motor out, I'd pressure wash the snot out of everything and then go crazy with some POR-15, clean up and paint the firewall, etc. But I'm kinda weird about that kinda thing... :D

Hate to tell ya, but Monday is a holiday....so stuff might still be closed then.

Look at the trans pump seal ( if it is an auto ) and replace it if it looks questionable/brittle/seeping.

If you live near a Home Depot, they carry 2 and 10 pound spools of the flux core wire and are open pretty much every day. :-) I've even seen the small spools at a Walmart...
