So a few years back I swapped out the 1/2 10 bolt from my 1986 GMC Jimmy with the front end from a 1985 K20. Is K20 front end more appropriately called a Dana 44 or an 8-lug 10 bolt?

Its an 8 lug 10 bolt, which is made by GM. The axle you have is an 8 lug 10 bolt.

The Dana 44 is made by Dana/Spicer, and while it is similar in design/strength (they even share a bunch of parts) it is a different axle.

As said everything outward of the inner bearing is swappable including spindles, hubs, knuckles, steering arms, outer shafts, calipers, rotors and locking hubs.
