arb locker question

If you have an ARB in the front you can have whatever hubs you want. You won't notice its there with full time hubs (drive flanges) or lockouts.

The same pretty much goes for mechanical lockers too, other than in the snow. Mechanical lockers (Detroit, etc.) will pretty much stay unlocked unless power is going to them. That is, for part time transfer cases. Full time 4WD with a mechanical locker in the front is bad news.

i was wondering if a plate would go over the hub or wat becuase i dont see spending the money on that if i still have to have lock out hubs , is there a pic or something without the lock outs or something

Ok, what transfer case do you have (full time or part time 4WD) and what axle are you putting a locker in?

With an ARB you can run either lockouts (like these) or drive flanges (like these). The truck will drive exactly the same with either.

Lockouts are selectable, more expensive and significantly weaker. Nothing in the front end will be spinning when the hubs are unlocked which helps front end components last a little longer.

Drive flanges are pretty much bulletproof but can wear the front end components faster and decrease mileage by a small amount.

Both are available in 30 and 35 spline varieties (though 30 spline drive flanges are hard to come by).

A stock front Chevy dana 60 has 30 spline outer shafts that are ~1.31" (the same size as most 1/2 ton shafts).

35 spline (1.5") dana 70 outers are a direct replacement and are the same strength as everything else in a front dana 60.

Lockouts will be the weak point in 30 or 35 spline varieties. Nobody breaks drive flanges.

If you need lockouts/drive flanges I would highly recommend upgrading to the 35 spline outers and drive flanges. You'll probably be doing it down the road anyway and its not too expensive. :thumb:

thanx man, but the main reason i ask is because im buying a BARE dana 60 for 400 so ima put everything in all new since i have to buy something anyway, but thanks again for the info
