ARB vs Ox vs E-Locker

ya know all the smack the last week or two here on these few locker sugestions and questions. its amazing how there is almost 75% for arb.

makes me glad i got 2 of them 60/14ff

I'm planning on getting ARB's front and rear for my chevy and putting one in the front of my dodge. Both trucks have on-board air and pretty much everyone with an arb loves them.

My buddy has an OX in his heep, he's running a 60/14 combo. We could never get the cable adjusted right to be able to unlock/lock it. So we just left it locked all the time. Last trip out the cable got ripped off the diff cover and we had to do the bolt method to lock it. The ox cost more then an arb too.

Ok well it seems overwhelming for ARB but Im not ruling Ox out yet. Is the Ox really more expensive? I got a quote for $963 for the ARB.

I wonder what else do I have to buy though? My OBA isn't done yet, but would just having a tank with air be sufficient for a day of wheeling?

For that much it should include a compressor and harness. Mine was alot less. You should be able to find one for ~$800

Hardly need any air to lock up the ARB. An air tank would last a whole season just locking up the locker

... make a list of all the single points-of-failure on a truck. There are so many ways to become stranded it becomes almost pointless to try to cover them all with contingency plans. The best you can do...
...is to carry a spare mountain bike. Can't get any more mechanically simple than that. :D

As for air sources for the locker: that ARB mini compressor works fine. I happen to have another electric compressor in my truck for the tires - can't do a York since I like my A/C. I made an adapter so I can run the 5mm ARB line from my Puma compressor if I ever need it.

...its amazing how there is almost 75% for arb. ...

How can that be :D? Are all these votes based on experience gained from real-world comparisons? Or based on personal preferences for one or the other? Or based on personal projections of what someone might want to get in the future?

I also doubt that the poll has reached any level of statistical significance at this point...:D

Then you need to carry spare bike parts! Tubes, chain :haha::haha:

Yeah, but they're lightweight parts. And just think about the mechanical simplicity, and the conceptual beauty of such a solution! I bet you could carry an entire mountain bike for the same weight as a long-side D60 front axle shaft combo...:pimp:

just tell them i am buyin 1 or 2 lockers and i need the arb compressor for it. whats the best package deal today . and i am calling 3-4 more places so make it good.

thay will compete.

Yeah, I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but it's relevant to what's I'm planning so....

Just a reality check. From reading several threads on CK5 and around the web, ARB is the selectable locker of choice. So, it's not so much that the ARB is better because of the locking activation method (air not electric or cable etc) but because overall it is stronger and more durable down to the component level. Sure, the activation method may be more of a individual preference. Some may choose the routing air lines, wire rope cable or electric cables.

But in a nut shell, ARB is highly recommended primarily because of it's strength and durability proven in a lab and the field. Does this sound correct?

reason i chose 2 arb's for my play toy is SNOW .

if i can be open then go locked when needed its a lot better for driving . :thumb:

Still using the 1st series ARB in my 60. Newer ones are to be improved, only issue I had was self caused cutting the inner seal putting the carrier back in. Not a design flaw, just a bad mechanic
:haha:

This is why you choose a selectable locker. Why did you choose ARB over other selectable lockers?

2 simple reasons

open or locked. i find in snow open is best till needed. then lock it up and get out and go back to open.
