Arc underhood welder?

A few months back or so, a member of this site(can't think of the name) built a homemade version of those on board welders. It seemed to work well for him and it only cost a fraction of the price of one of those ones you listed.

I ran into a guy in a jeepster a few years ago on the trail that had one of those mounted in his glove box... Very cool...

Is there any info on the one that you friend built???

I've got an old Marquette stick machine that I never use...

I was thinking about taking it apart and using it for the parts to build an on board welder...

It would be nice to have a console type plate that had switches, meter and female plugs for the leads... Just pull the leads out of the back and the rest is plug-n-play...

I was pretty set on going with the Powermaster unit.. because I hadn't seen anyone run em yet... but lately I've been reconsidering the Premier and the cheap route..

There is that one but the one I'm thinking of was posted up on this site some time last year. It was done by someone who has an '80s era K5.

EDIT: found the link. Here it is.

With a Ford externally regulated alt. its as simple as putting 12v to the field . No internal mods are needed.

:D

is there any worry about drawing to much power and burning **** up with making you own?
