looks like tubes aren't in all the way. you can see the recess area next to housing. its a dana 70, my d44 doesn't show recess area. also on inside of tube there is a small gap, it had rtv sealant in it. i am regearing it right now and have never drove truck with it yet. what do you guys think?:dunno:

you should find out what total length is supposed to be and measure yours. The gap might be for adjustment sake. Also, if these tubes actually moved, it must have happened a long time ago as there is no fresh metal showing. They look to have been like this for a long time.

Check spring pad-to-pad width and compare to some else's D70.

Otherwise I have no idea :)

normal but easy to check as said by going to spring pad center to center.

42.5" 1/2 and 3/4 ton and true 1ton axle 40.5" wide.
