Are Blazers supposed to have ashtray lighting?

Check out these two pictures of the ashtray area of my '88 K5 (Silverado package, if it matters in this case). I've got a wire going down through a little plastic holder in a hole in the metal above the ashtray, but on the underside, it's just cut clean off, no bulb socket or nothing. But I figure it can't be meant for much else than to light up the ashtray, right? Either through some sort of connector when opening the tray, or just along with the other courtesy lights? Does anybody know which parts I'm missing? I took this up as a side note when picking up some other parts at a GM dealer, but he couldn't even find a mention of ashtray lighting in his records.

It is like a fiber optic line. It is a sheathed plastic wire if you will and it gets its light from one of the other dash lights and the light travels down the plastic and shines out the end.

Dang, I never figured that. Never noticed much light at all, but that might of course have something to do with some of my other cluster lights being dead or bad, and the whole thing being poorly lit to begin with. I'm going to pull the whole cluster anyway to change all the bulbs (and paint the backside chrome, like some here have done!), so I'll check that that wire is hooked up right at the same time - and hopefully I'll notice some light in my ashtray too after that. :p:
