Anybody have good street experience with radial swampers? I'm looking at 37s or 38s. Can you contrast them to bias TSLs and/or "regular" radials like 37" BFGs or Goodyear OZ? I used to have OZ radials and eventually got them all within 1/4" of being round and I could drive 70MPH. Now my bias TSLs measure from 1/4" to 3/4" out of round and it's noticeable at any speed, but a real problem over 55MPH. Going from 12oz to 20oz of airsoft didn't help, so it's not just balance. I would like to stick with a cool-guy tire, but need to bring the wife/kids on longer highway trips without mutiny.

EDIT: Specifically I have my eyes on a set of SSR, 37x12.5x16.5, the radial TSL is not offered in that size.

Ive had 2 set of radial swampers, and about 4 sets of bias. The radials were round, and drove awesome.

My radial Swampers are only 31X10.50's, but other than the noise factor, they are fine on the highway, and 65 is no big deal.

I had no issues with 36in radial tsls. 35in radial ssrs. And even my 42 bias tsls drove smooth on the freeway.

My mil mtrs and mts drive smooth as well. At least they did before I put the h1 beadlocks on.

Love my SSR 37x12.50x16.5 using beds to balance the tires. Run smooth down the highway. Fastest my truck goes is 70mph.

I have a set of 38/15.5/16.5 Super Swampers Radial SSR. They only have a few hundred miles on them but they no issues.

I had a set of 36x14.50 radials and years later a set of 38" radials, both drove worlds better then any of the bias TSL's I've owned. That being said, my bias pittbull rockers ride as well or maybe better then the radial swampers I have owned......they make a radial rocker too :D

Had 38x15.50x15 swamped radials. Great tire no out of round or balance issues.

I assume SSR is a little better on the road and radial TSL is a little better off road?

I'm encouraged to hear so much good luck with them. It seems that Interco bias plys are hit and miss for how well they were made. As much as I'll miss TSLs, I think SSR is a better all-around tire for my needs. There are reports of punctured sidewalls, and while they obviously aren't as tough as TSL SX, I doubt they're any worse than BFG, Goodyear or other radials.

What surprises me from the specs is that SSR is the heaviest swamper. A 38" SSR weighs 104 lbs, about the same as a 42" TSL. So going from a 38 TSL to a 37 SSR, I'm actually adding 11lbs at each corner.

I think so.I've run Swampers since the first 13/37 bias (which I had no problems with). I have run the SSRs in 285/75-16 on a '95 K3500 work truck,I mean, all over the place. And,presently run 37/12.50-16.5s on my '72 K2500. They are great!

Here's how the 37x12.5 SSR compares to the 38x12.5 TSL. You can see there is a little less void between the outer lugs and the outer lugs aren't quite as tall. The overall carcass is wider.

3 of these SSRs measure out pretty round. The 4th seems to have a spot 1/2" low. The 8-bolt Hummer rims are kind of a wild card and they leave you room for error. I might try messing with it to center better. They are smoother on the road than the bias TSLs were, but they are not everything I hoped for.

I've had tsl radials for a few yrs now. No problems on the freeway with the needle buried. no vib issues. :waytogo:

What Size? I would love the 38s, but they only come in wide (for 16.5s anyway) which weigh 100 lbs each. Would definitely try them if the right deal came up.

I had 36x14.5.16.5 Radial Swamper and the 38x15.5x16.5 Radial Swamper and they were both excellent tires on and off road. My only issue with them was the size, they were not close to their printed size, no weight, off the truck. the 38 was closer to 36.5 and the 36 was barely 35. But i miss my swamper footprint!
