Are retreads safe for dd?

I don't know about larger tires but 33" and smaller are very common to see retreads everyday.

I've never used them on a car. Semis use them all the time... just not very fun when you are next to or behind one and it loses the retread.

I dunno about safe or not, but all the tire treads you see on the freeway were from re-treaded tires. I guess it depends on how long you want them to last.

No clue. Would need to ask the trans. director. I do know the district buys new tires and once they're worn, they get them retreaded. After the retreads wear down, they toss the tires and buy new ones again. They never retread a retread.

the treads you see on the highway are just as often retreads as they are original treads. its tire failure and not necessarily an adhesion failure.

and yeah youll be just fine with them.

if youre ever round my parts i can get you a set of OG hummer tires. or just retreads in general? theres several retread shops around town here, it might just be cheaper to buy slightly used tires.

I am running 35" hi-tec-retreads, for over a year and they have been great so far. They just changed their name to TreadWright and you can get that size tire much cheaper: http://treadwright.com/Tires-37x12_50R16_5_D_Mud-P60.aspx

It isn't the original hummer tread pattern, though. Most of their 33" + tires are just like the Dunlop Mud Rover pattern. The green diamond option also makes them useable on winter roads.

DOT won't allow retreads on the front axle for safety reasons, I recommend the same. It's not pretty when a pickup retread comes off the front end (however, said pickup also had 10+ people in the bed at the time, but still...)

These are two different classifications. The Hitec process is remoulding / remanufacturing and is generally DOT approved, especially for the smaller sizes. Commercial is not the same as for light trucks, either.
