The axles are the same from the inner "C" to inner "C". From the knuckles out is the difference.
You will have 2 issues though,
1st The gears should be set up properly into the new axle
2nd depending on the year of the axle assemblies you have, they may both be 27 spline or both 30 spline or one will have 27 and the other 30. The axle shafts interchange as well so you can just swap them too if needed.
easy isnt the prob here-money is,I have both axles-the 3/4 is rusted out, only thing salvageable is the gearset and long side axle-1/2 ton has all new parts 1K old ,ball joints,TREs,brakes-I dont even mind keeping my front 6 lug setup until the brakes are done-but i was given 3/4 rear w/410 and tires and need to save some money -so its mix and match for now-just needed to know if the gear swap would fit my 1/2 front
The setup should be close enough. I've plugged-and-played with several sets of gears over the years and have never had any trouble. Just check your back-lash once you get it installed. If that's good, then the setup is close enough to run.

I'm not going to say it is the 100% correct way, I will agree with the above comment for a FRONT axle. Slap it in and do some basic measurements. The front typically is only engaged a small percentage of the time so a little more noise or wear aren't really an issue.
I certainly will try to be as dead on as possible but my thought was the same-im rarely in 4 wheel[no legal wheelin close by]and if i get it right its just good practice. Thanks
