Is there much of a difference in of a half ton and 3 quarter ton suburban from years 1973 to 1991 and pulling load?

Sounds like you assume that pulling is all about the engine? 3/4 will have larger rear axle, lower gears, bigger brakes, stiffer springs. Overall much better for towing.
