ARGH! Freaking carb issue!

In general, what would cause a miss under acceleration, but runs fine under light load?

Distributor module, magnetic pick up coil, or Coil. I would replace the dist module and see what happens.
Beings you tried 3 different carbs and still have trouble. I suspect you have ignition problems.

fix your bad plug wire and replace the plugs. My guess is burn wire or cracked plug.

Well, I replaced one plug wire, it was the only one burnt. It will happen again too, because there is almost no clearance at the #3 primary. I also changed the coil because I had a perfectly good Mallory coil sitting around. Then I drove it for about 10 miles and romped on it a few times. If I were deaf, blind, and had no sense of smell, I would say it runs great. It feels smooth and power seems good. Although I don't have much to go by since this truck has not run right since I got it. It feels similar to my Impala though, which has a very similar drive train. BUT, the exhaust does not sound smooth (hard for me to describe), and there is excessive exhaust odor. Also, at idle there is a faint smoke. If I had to pick a color, I would say it looks gray. So it still isn't right, but at least it is driveable. Tomorrow I will pull the plugs and see what they look like.
