Or he could just hit a car full of kids.......

with his long driveway, he'll crash before that.. I don't think he really plans on taking it on the street.. hopefully not :eek1: I'm worried for him and his brakes

You friend is a fockin moron. He is putting his and other peoples live at risk...

The hard lines the the only thing that wont be damaged...A completly new brake system is in order...

Carb cleaner is not brake cleaner and will leave a residue... There is a reason they are two differant things:rolleyes:

He still doesn't believe me! I guess the bright side is that it will only go 45 mph and so a crash into a tree might not be so bad. Maybe I need to find a scholarly journal of science to show him or something! :eek1:
Time to shoot the stupid bastard.

Wait, maybe he'll hit and kill someone from his own family before he believes us.

Once there is an accident and someone finally gets done with their investigation and finds out that it was from the wrong fluid in the MC that caused the failure then wait and see how much this will cost him with the lawsuit that awaits.

carb cleaner is also more harsh on rubber components, if you notice it's more harse on your hands as well....it WILL dry out the rubber in brake systems components.

I rarely use carb cleaner for anything anymore.

ok guys, he said he would thorougly bleed the system with DOT3 brake fluid.. I think he has like 2 quarts.. how much should he use total? I'm thinking like a few gallons :eek1:

Make sure he disconnects the lines from the front calipers and rear drums. If he hasn't driven it, it's doubtful that the ATF made it that far. If he has, then flush it normal. If he disconnects, 2 quarts might make it, but I'm doubtful. One thing you can do is flush the system out with denatured alcohol. This will clean all fluids out, displacing it and won't damage the linings or rubber, but you'll need more than 2 quarts after the cleaning.

Let's face it: your friend failed to listen to great wisdom and now he has to pay the piper.

He can be charged with criminal negligent or even criminal homicide!!

Yep. $15ish the gallon IIRC, buy two or three. And a garden sprayer -- big fan of the pressure bleeder.

Just a quick update.. he caved and bled around a gallon and a half of fluid through the system. He did it untill it was no longer pink. Just having atf in it a few days and not being driven, is his system possibly ok?

I doubt that it is good now, the ATF will attack the rubber just sitting there. If it were me i would start buyig every part that has rubber in it and start replaing them ASAP.

wow

since its going to eat the rubber stuffin the brakelines and masterc i guess we better put brake fluid in the tranny cause we dont want atf to eat the seals out of the tranny oh my :haha:

The seals are made of different material. ATF will attack the rubber products in the brake system.

It's to ****in late the ATF set on the seals for about two days, if the first thread was posted on the same day. THE DAMAGE IS ALREADY DONE. Please allow me to give your "friend" an anology. Don't cry over spilt milk, in this case the spilt milk is the ATF contaminating the brake system and don't cry because you were told, ONCE ITS DONE ITS DONE. I have read threw this thread, at first I might be able to see how this could be done, but now I can tell this dumb bastard dosen't have the intelligence GOD gave a brick, to listen to resonable thinking. Please do us all a favor (everyone who operates a motor vehicle LEGAL or NOT) and burn it.
