I just bought a new tie rod for my D60 from ORD and its a little different than the stock one. The whole tie rod spins to adjust ends where my stock one had a small 'turnbuckle' that spun and the tie rod stayed in place. I had the tabs welded to my my stock tie rod for the steering ram. If I weld it to the new one I won't be able to spin it. Whats the best way to mount the tabs on this new tie rod??

Thanks

either set your toe and weld it up agian like most do.

Or order a tube clamp and weld to that. Uses 6 allen heads to clamp it together. I think Kurt has em

This is the way I went. Works great.

Just weld to the rod. Set your toe and be done. Do you drive this rig on the street?

I adjusted my rig to .25" Toe-in.
Then, I welded a chopped up shock tab, to the Tie Rod.

If I ever need to adjust it, I'll just pop the TRE out, and re-set it.
Simple. :waytogo:

Obviously this is for a steering stabilizer, but same concept...

I agree with welding to the tie rod after setting toe in. I contemplated those clamps but eventually decided on just welding it. Your toe in is one of those things that shouldnt ever change unless something gets messed up.

Awesome, thanks guys. I think I will just set the toe and weld them back on.

Yes, I do drive it on the street a little. It really chews up the TSL's though.

I wheel too hard for clamps... They just move.

I just mean in general.
Gotcha... :waytogo:

Me and Chris watched some Yota truck bend their stock tie rod....
All they did was drive over some small rocks, like river stone sized.

:haha:

Chris had to make a "Jig", out of big rocks, for them to slam it into to straighten it up.
It was classic... :D

Mine is a sleeved dom tie rod from Rockstomper. In the pic you can see it is tweaked just a little but it is 10+ years old. My ram is on with a clamp and has worked fine for years. I used a single cut slide on clamp instead of the 2 piece design.

Maybe weld a bead around the tierod so it cant slip.

This sounds like a good idea. Im sure the clamps would work fine. There are a lot of guys that run them and Ive never heard of a problem. I know how I am and if I had a clamp I would always be worried that it moved. I could see myself measuring it every time I drove it just to make sure:doah:

Its also cheaper for to just weld it on and if you get a clamp now and a bigger tie rod later then you'll need a bigger clamp.
