ATTN: auto trans gurus....i think my 4L60E blew to hell...

well, it's actually my good friends....he was on the interstate and had cruise on going like 60 and he gave it gas to pass somebody and it halted the vehicle. it's not even driveable. we had it towed home. i originally though it was his 10bolt rear the night it happened, but upon inspection the rear end is fine.

right now if you start the truck and put it in reverse it grinds like all hell has broken loose and doesn't move...but i can get it to creap forward in OD. this is a 4L60E(4L65) in an 01 chevy 4x4. it does have 140,xxx miles on it. is this repairable or do we need a new trans???? we're gonna pull the pan and see what(if any) comes out with the fluid in a few minutes.

anybody got any clues?

Could be the t-case too, but I'd put my money on the trans blowing up.

should be able to have it rebuilt. not gona be cheap though. around here if you pull it and take it to the shop would run bout 1100-1500.00

If it needs rebuilt, I would get a GM rebuilt trans.

There are many people who claim to know how to rebuild these transmissions but few that do it right.

yeah....that's what i figured. looks like we can get a GM rebuilt trans from partsdirect.com for right at 2k. 1700with our core. one other thing that happened is when the tow truck dropped it off...we put the trans in N with the motor not running and tried pulling the truck up our driveway(to the flat part) and it was very very difficult to pull it backwards in N...but when we shifted the transfer case into N it came up no problem with no resistance. this blows either way b/c the guy with the truck has no mulah to pay for a new trans right now. owell, live and learn.

well...we just found chunks of metal in the trans pan that look like gears.....so the trans is prolly fubar'd.
