Since I bought my 88 K5 in December I have had to keep tightening the left front hub bearings. It will go a week before it needs retightening. I have installed new bearings, and am cranking the lock nuts to the correct torque values. Last time I cranked the outer lock nut to over 100lbs and its got loose. Am I missing something. Anyone have an exploded diagram of these hubs so I can see if I'm missing a part. Thanks in advance for any help on the matter. Missle

Is the inner nut missing the little peg? My book shows the jam nut torque as 150-180 ft-lb.

Might look into the Stage 8 locking nut system.

Not sure about the little peg. I haven't installed one when tightening it down. Does anyone have an exploded view of the system?

Do a search for hub diagrams, there are several that have been posted. The problem sure sounds like you are either missing the locking washer that goes between the inner and outer spindle nuts, or the pin is broken/turned the wrong way on the inner spindle nut.

The order is:

Inner spindle nut, with locking pin facing towards the hub
Locking washer engaged in keyway on spindle and onto locking pin
Outer spindle nut at 150-180 lb. ft.

If the locking washer is not there, the pin isn't engaged, or the pin is broken it will quickly loosen up no matter how tight you get the outer locking spindle nut.

Thanks for the info. I definately am missing some pieces. I'll search the diagram and get to ordering.

You need the nut first (with the tab) to go, then the locking ring, then the nut without the tab.

About $10 each at Auto Parts store. I just got two new ones with the tabs and then re-used my other ones as the second nut.
