Good question.. since my speedo is fudged up in my 89 Blazer.. I was thinking of putting in a Auto meter 5 inch Speedometer with tripmeter..
Thanks for bringing this one up..
I've done it. I just haven't poseted the pics yet, I'm hoping to do it this week along with my rust pics. It is acually really simple to do. I also know what you are talking about for the pictures but I don't have the addresses. It is totally worth it though, mechanical accurate guages and a very cool look.

i'm thinking of doing this too. i'm going to make a custome dash to hold them though. or i might just remove my dash and build it in with the roll cage when i build that. i dunno. i don't have the time or the money for it right now.

check out my pics in the members gallery (VDO's instead of auto-meters, but they are in the stock location, and they are much cheaper then the auto-meters...)

oh yea, here is a list of the gauges sets I am using from both companies...
VDO Description
333 158 Tachometer
301 106 Fuel gauge for GM sender
332 103 Voltmeter
350 107 Oil Pressure
310 105 Temp Gauge
437 153 Speedometer
323 900 Temp Gauge Sender Unit
360 900 Oil Pressure Sender Unit
340 011 Speedometer Sender Unit
310 107 Trans Temp Gauge
323 086 Trans Temp Sender (3/8's inch probe)
AutoMeter Description
2499 Tachometer
2514 Fuel gauge for GM sender
2592 Voltmeter
2522 Oil Pressure
2532 Temp Gauge
2489 Speedometer
5291 Speedometer Sender Unit
2552 Trans Temp Gauge
(Note, the speedometer and RPM in this setup are 3 3/8" so they will not work in the stock bezels. I will be getting a peice of brushed alluminum and cutting out holes for the gauges so I can incorperate in a tranny temp gauge with the stock cluster...)
NOTE: some of the senders come with the auto-meter gauges so that is why there are less items in the auto-meter list.
I can also get a list of the VDO gauge set I used in Insane Ewok... the only differences are the Speedometer used, and the RPM gauge used. they are 4" instead of 3 3/8" for use in the stock bezels.

How accurate are those autometer fuel gagues? I have never personally used one, and the only one my work has put in has in a jeep and it always read wrong. The ohms were off on it so it would read 1/4 tank when it was empty.

they make fuel gauges for each type of sender (gm, ford etc.) so either he didn't have the right gauge, or they didn't make one for a jeep sender...
my VDO fuel gauges is very accurate, and I know autometer sells gauges for the gm senders also.
