I've always been sworn automatic driver... Until yesterday. I took my brothers Toyota Land Cruiser HJ-60 (diesel, manual, 4.88 gears, 35" MT's and SOA) to test drive, and after 1/4 mile drive I was convinced that manual tranny is the best choice for type of off-road we do. I just let it idle over the tree stumps and rocks
So, not long after that, I had made a decicion that Suburban will have manual tranny. SM465 would be nice, but with 33" street tires engine would be around 2250 rpm. Feels a bit too much. NV4500 would be better, though it's rare in this part of the world (like 465, too) and expensive. So, I'm going with 5 spd 'Yota tranny, although it has only 4.88 first gear compared to 6.55 what I would have earlier mentioned trannys.
That 'Yota tranny swap is quite easy since I'm running divorced 205, and I'm also going to use Chevy bellhousing, so when I find better tranny, it's easy swap again.
