Just for giggles, what about using an additive like the Lucas Oil stuff. any pros/cons to using/not using.

I have used this stuff and will continue to do so.

Had a TH 350 that wouldn't hardly move under its own power, but by dang I wanted to go wheeling.

Put lucas in it and it actually drove decent for about a day. Changed the fluid and put some more lucas in it and it lasted another 2 months or so. It still slipped just not so bad you couldn't drive it.

This is in a transmission that was just plain worn out no hard parts broken.

I would never put in in a newer trans but in an older one heck yes

Nah, not going to run it out of fluid. Going to use the squirt 2 quarts - add 2 quarts till it runs pink. hopefully it works out, heres to keeping my fingers crossed. If not it will be time to learn a rebuild on a TH400.
That's all I do. I route the line into a gallon jug with the little level indicator on the side and do like 1/2 to 1 quart at a time.

That summit thermostat looks pretty cool. I have a 2.5 mile commute and sometimes wonder if the tranny warms up all winter.

These Derale Cooling Products fluid control thermostats will reduce warm-up time, especially in cold weather, by allowing transmission fluid to bypass its cooler until the fluid temperature reaches 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Each thermostat includes 3/8 in. hose barb fittings and hose clamps.

2.5 miles = not a chance unless you warm the truck up in the driveway for a bit.

my old crewcab 96 would hit 140* in around 3-4 miles after 10 min warm up with remote start.

I know from personal experience, that once you open that trans line and turn the motor on, you're going to be suprised at how fast the fluid comes out, This 1-2qt deal at a time is going to be tough.

I just recently did a double service on a 4L60e that hadn't been serviced in quite some time and the fluid was looking pretty bad, I dropped the pan, replaced the filter & gasket and refilled with new fluid for about 4 days when I did it again, new filter & gasket and another 5 new quarts, the fluid looks much better, almost perfect.

My opinion would be to just drop the pan, empty & clean what you can, reinstall, refill, run it for a bit and then do it again but replacing the filter & gasket with new ones.

I would definately replace the filter, you burnt the fluid, but that takes friction of something to burn it.
