I have a 10 bolt and want to lose the autos (obviously). I won some Warns on Ebay. The guy says I need a conversion Kit? I have an 88', is this correct? Thanks.

I have an 88 and I just installed warn premiums & they work
fine. No one ever mentioned a conversion kit to me.

Dealership Parts Man

Just bought warn premiums at desert rat. They told me I needed the conversion kit as well. I argued with them for a while but went ahead and bought it. Should have opened the kit first. Everything in the kit is already in my axle. But it might depend on which auto's you have. I have the autos with a 5 bolt pattern. The kit says that the autos with the three bolt pattern need the conversion. But I would doubt it. I'm taking the conversion kit back, tossing it on the counter, And demanding my $$ back. DD

I called warn direct and they told me that the 5 bolts are made by borg-warner and do not need the conversion, I put the warn premiums on last weekend and it took me 10 min. per side.

My hotrod goes anywhere I want it to.

When I went to do mine I was told the same thing. It is total BS! It took me a minute to figure out where everything went and how it got there, but you do NOT need a kit. Even the Warn instructions say so. I wish these parts houses would get there crap straight. All told I did both sides in about 30 min.

If you have auto hubs you do not need the conversion kit.
The conversion kit is for converting a full time 4x4 transfer case to part time. If your transfer case has a 2H position all you need is the hubs.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one given a plate of B.S. on the so-called "conversion kit". Like mentioned before, the kit is for full-time 4WD trucks (NP203 if I remember correctly).

I think these geniuses at some of these parts places try to nail you for the extra $50 and hope you'll just say "screw it" and never return them after you realize you don't need it.

The learning curve is a toll road...ride with someone who has already paid!

Well the guy said it was for the 3 bolt pattern, so YES you do need one if you have the 3 bolt which I don't

The conversion kit needed for the 3 bolt pattern hubs is a spindle nut conversion kit, not a transfer case conversion.
I rember seeing a 3 bolt pattern auto hub on chev trucks before but I think they are pretty rare on K5s
