Was just wondering how this is wired up as im interested in doing this, as well as a killswitch when i get the truck how i want it.

The ambulances at work have an automatic idle (which is connected to the high idle but i dont need that). Basically the truck is runningin park, you put on the ebrake and tap a momentary switch and then you can take the key out, and she stays idling. The momment the ebrake comes off or you even touch the brake the engine dies. Was wondering how this works, it would be nice to warm the truck out without leaving the key locked in it (a practice i dont like to do)

The e brake has an electrical contact to light the panel light, correct? If so, you could use that as a holding cicuit for a relay paralled into whatever a diesel has for a gas equivelant for ignition. I royally suck at ms paint and impoting images etc., but give me some time and I could try to draw something up.

P.S. Whats the rush, I dont think this is a tonight project:dunno:

I know some remote starters have this feature...as do some newer cars. I have no idea as how you would go about making it work. I'm sure it would be possible to wire up a switch to constant 12v, wire that to the distributor. Have another switch mounted to the brake pedal....so when the high idle switch is on, if the brake is pressed it will ground that circut out, killing the motor. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure it out. Maybe someone who knows a little more about electrical will chime in with an idea.

Cant draw it out tonight. 1 control relay and 1 power relay is simple if all you are using is bosch auto relays. If the "ignition, injector solenoid" IDK is low current draw(lesss than 10 A) an DPDT ice cube could be used. More paint attempts later.

That is exactly how my remote start works. Its bitchin.

For the amount of work that woudl go into wiring it up yourself, i would look into the setup i bought.

It was under $75 from amazon, audiovox prestige setup. Starts with 2 clicks of the remote button, has great range, programable on how long it runs. Will shut off if you touch the brake pedal or open the hood.

If you can find a cheaper setup, you could get remote start without keyless entry, as i'm guessing your truck does not have power door locks.

Are you looking for something to regulate the idle speed (automatic idle control) or just something to keep that engine running without a key (a relay)?

When you say "high idle" it makes me think you have a carb. The problem with remote starters and carbs is that it's hard to get the choke set.

To just keep the vehicle running is easy. Get a DPDT or DPST relay. One set of contacts goes in parallel with your ignition switch. The other set of contacts is in series with the relay coil, tied to the brake switch (I think the brake switch goes to ground so it's +12 --> relay contacts (NO) --> relay coil --> brake switch). Then you just need a momentary switch (pushbutton) that powers the coil.

interesting, i like that idea. Automatic starts are a no no because its deisel. Im just looking for it to be able to idle without the key in the ignition, and if the ebrake goes off or the brake is touched she shuts down

The autostart i got has more than enough timers/ign wires etc to be properly setup with and start a diesel. As long as its an auto trans....
