automatic tranny problem

Ok i've only owned this truck for a short time. Maybe a little over a month.

It is a 80 chevy 350/350turbo/205. anyway i go to take off the other day for work and put it in gear. Nope. It won't move. So i let it run thinking maybe it's just cold (shouldn't be it's freakin 70*outside) Anyhow try it again a few minutes later.

nothing. :rolleyes: Leave it running and check the tranny. it's all pink and full:confused: Now how can a tranny go from working to just crap overnight. I've never been in the water with it, never took it off road except for a gravel road at work. It was my DD so i didn't have wear and tear on my '94

I freakin hate automatics. I have no good luck with them at all. :mad:

I'm just wondering since i didn't run it long if i could change the fluid and filter and see what happens or do you think it's crapped out?? I'll spend the money if i think it's worth it.

I also bought a 4speed and 205 yesterday for cheap. Everything included. I may put it in it if i can't get it fixed

Nah just kidding. I had the same thing happen to me but I had a 700r4. Apparently the output shaft shattered as I put it into park the night before. The next morning it wouldnt move just like yours. The shaft was from Advanced Adapters though. Yours is prolly stock. I never have seen a stock output shaft snap. My tranny guy said trannies will burn up about 30-60 seconds after the shaft breaks.

Thats not so funny . Someone did it to me when we still lived in an apartment :doah:

Same complex is where I saw the first CK5 stickered truck years back , doubt he did it , there were like five different K5 owners living there ( this is AZ ) :D
 
This could be the transmission or the transfer case. T-cases have been know to go into Nuetral at weird times. See if Park locks the driveshaft. If so, it's something with the transmission. Check the linkage to make sure it is actually moving the transmission shift shaft or if it came apart somewhere.
 
Is there a visible leak on the trans?
Does the fluid level change? Check while the engine is off, and then check again while running? If it doesn't change it may have a broken pump.
check your linkage to see if its moving the input shaft on the side of the trans. (the one that goes into the valve body inside the trans.) If it is moving it, check the line pressure.

Never checked that as it did TRY and move. I felt a couple little tugs but nothing to get me started :crazy:

It's an '80. EVERYTHING leaks. :haha: But yeah i have made to keep checking the levels on it due to it leaking. Nothing major but i could see a couple droplets after maybe a long drive.

I was gonna mess with it more today but as soon as i stepped out the door it started to rain so i said **** that. :D

I'll do that tomorrow

For the record my tranny's ****. I knew i hated autos for a reason.

Manual here i come ;) then the lift blah blah blah
