Does anyone know if the Autometer 6831 tach is magneto specific or can it be used on a GM HEI ignition? I've looked on Autometers website but it isn't real clear if it's magneto specific. The reason i ask is i've been wanting to buy a tach for my rig and forgot that i had this one laying around (brand new in box) from my race car days. Yes it's a little overkill for my rig but i already own it.

I'm not sure which tach that PN is, but I've used an Autometer "Monster" tach with HEI. I also used a set of autometer guages, including tach, out of circle track car in a jeep that had a 3.8 v6 HEI. Don't know if thats much help!

I looked at the diections on the site, it appears to me that it IS magnito specific.

I just got off the phone with Autometer Tech support and this tach is magneto specific however they told me for 45.00 i could send it in and have it converted to work with an electronic ignition. They also told me that tach is no longer made and is a desireable tach that people are still looking for. Hmm, now what do i do. I like the memory recall feature and to buy a new tach with that feature is going to cost a good penny. I might send this tach in for the conversion.

Well, if the racers like it and will pay stupid money for it, sell it on Ebay or Craigslist, then buy a new one with the features you want and pocket the difference ;)
