This isnt GM tech, but might be using GM parts.

I have a 77 Dodge MH with a 25 gallon tank. Pitiful size for something that gets 10mpg. So I want to add a tank. I have two options. First is to use an aux tank meant for a p/u bed, or use the 40 gallon from my old Burb.

With the first option, there are actually two ways to do this. One is a flat tank that I could mount under the coach behind the stock tank. THe other is a vertical tank and mount this on the rear bumper, behind the coach. On both, I could keep it simple and just use the tank to transfer fuel, or plumb into the fuel lines and use like a normal tank. In either case, I dont have the ability to see how much is in the tank.

The second option is to use the 40 gal from the Burb, mounted under the coach. Use the Burb fuel sender and gauge, and change the fuel pump to either transfer to the stock tank or work with the old mech pump system on the MH. The only problem with this is clearance. The tank will be far enough back and sit low enough to bottom out. The above flat tank would sit up inside the frame rails and the fittings are small and the fill neck is off the side, not on top like the Burb tank.

So what do you guys think?

i would grab a newer tank from like a 90's chevy van. then use the tbi fuel pump to push it in to the reg van tank as needed.

and it should fit in the frame rails real easy with little mods.

and if you run the motor home a lot best look in to a efi simple swap on kit.

I wont dive into that much yet. I know nothing about Dodge stuff.

So do the vans have a more shallow tank than a Burb?

Thats the problem. The flat bed tank I found was only like 10" deep and could mount almost snug against the bottom of the coach. The Burb tank is like 18" deep and that's not including the 4-5" for the fill neck on top. A Burb tank would still fit in the frame rails, but stick down far enough to be a potential hazard if I bottom out. We are only driving roads with this, but you never know, I've bottomed out in the 2wd Burb on some driveways.

Now on to this EFI swap; this motorhome has a 360 in it. Do I need to look for year specific or anything that fits a 360?

Not sure if I'm ready for FI yet. Looks pretty slick, but the carb was redone last year and honestly, this thing runs awesome.

Now I picked a few brains an another forum and some one mentioned using these http://www.moellermarine.com/aftermarket/fuel_storage_tanks/permanent_tanks/

With the generic sender and gauge, I could use the poly tank with a skid plate and run it like a true aux tank. Then I have gauges for both tanks and if I get the 55 gallon tank, I triple my fuel capacity :woot:
