im tired of seeing the same gutter mount type lightbars for our trucks. I hate to say it but has anyone considered (or even fabbed up) some brackets near our pillars or windshield cowl for lighting like the jeeps use?

i wonder if this is something worth going for. I already have a set of IPF lights on my front bumper, and dont want to go to the roof only for one more pair....this sounds like a good option, and just curious if anyone else thought of this.

Im fairly certain that someone mounted some on the cowl only to find out you couldnt open the hood all the way.

I might try mounting some to my hood at some point. Ive got alot of bumper space left right now though.

The set of IPFs that I am planning on getting are a slim mount. No more than 3 inches or so. I think I can get them mounted close enough to the windshield to open the hood up all the way. I just was curious if anyone had attempted to make up brackets similar to the jeeps. Anyone got any pros or cons to this location??

Visibility would be an issue, IMO. The hoods on our trucks, especially when lifted, have a blind spot the size of a Toyota already :haha:

I would reconsider bumper or grille mount. Especially if they're low-profile, you may be able to sneak the lights behind the grille and notch it out for them. Here's two I've done, one with a mesh grille and one with a factory (albeit CUCV) grille.

ive thought about doing a pillar mount on mine, but never got around to it. I also thought about doing a hood mound but thought it would look to jeepish.

i hear that, but funds are pretty low since i had purchased headers and a full dual exhaust :)

i figured brackets up near the pillars was something i could fab up myself. i guess im going to go for it..

Post up some pics when you are done. I am interested in seeing how it turns out. I also like the lights mounted on jeeps like that.

Ive thought about this and personally cant see how it would be complicated at all. Just get the mounts to go under the cowling and use L brackets, mount the lights and be done with it. The wires would be easy to hide down thru the cowling as well. In fact im surprised more ppl dont do this other than jeepers. Although this is not the optimum place to put lights, your going to lose 1/2 of the light out put due to it bouncing off the hood. Now your are looking for them as perimeter lights, it would work well I would imagine. But for down the road, I wouldnt think it would be effective. my .02

i did the cheap roof-rack way and took one off of a minivan... i don't have any really decent pictures of it, but it's fairly self-explainitory, unless you want some pics...?

i would like to clean it up a little better and make it look 'right' but it does the job i want now, and looks better than my bunk-bed-sourced lightbar...

i think if i can score another set of ipf slim mount lights it should work.
