Avatars

Thanks to 84 Chevy K10 and Triaged! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've finally found an avatar that I'm really happy with.

I hope the questionable ones are voluntarily removed, I would really hate to lose mine because of someone else testing the sites limits. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I guess I have a little bit different take on this avatar thing. I'd hate to see the avatars restricted to just miniscule pictures of trucks. If I want to see a guys rig, I go to his gallery or his web site and hope that the pictures are clear and detailed. I don't want to get a magnifying glass out to see their truck as an avatar. The avatar is a small way to express a persons individuality here on this board. I think they should be in reasonable taste, but taste is rather subjective. What may be hilarious to me may be offensive to someone else. If Steve finds one over the line, a simple PM or e-mail to the member should suffice. I enjoy coming here not just for the technical benefits, but to socialize and to meet people as well. People are all different and that is what makes it interesting and fun. This is why I think having other forums besides the technical ones is a good idea. When you go out wheeling, I don't think most folks restrict their conversations to strictly truck topics.

So you expect Steve to spend hours each day inspecting avatars and writing pm's? Think about it...all it takes is one asshat that changes his avatar a couple times a day to create hours of headache for Steve.

Steve has already posted his 'rules' for avatars...no people, male or female, real or cartoon in avatars. That still leaves plenty for expressing your individuality.

Maybe BigBurban383 has a thing for getting banned? Once wasn't enough at MJ...and it looks like the pattern is getting more and more established.

Somewhere in a parallel universe people are putting pics of trucks on a porn forum and getting in trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I think most days my wife wishes I was looking at porn rather than truck stuff. Would be cheaper. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hum, does this mean there won't be another girls of CK5 calander? Most of us would still be willing to buy a K5's of CK5 calander, but I think you see my point. Its hard to draw a line, but would that calander be a good representation of the line?

Well, it's not my place to say what is right and wrong, but I will voice my opinion on this issue. I think aslong as they are wearing clothing,... but that is just my opinion.

We're talking about avatars which come with every post...the person reading the post doesn't get a choice which avatars come up. For some of us this can get us in trouble at work (or home)

A calendar is something a person would choose to buy and then display as they saw fit.

Z3PR...so a fully clothed female emulating fellatio is OK by your standards?

Eventually Steve will have had enough of this BS and disable avatars altogether, maybe that's what you guys want?

I guess these guys won't be happy until Steve kills the avatars.... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Some people...DON'T GET-IT!!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

This is my fear. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As simple as it is some people just don't see it -

In the end this is a privately operated site with an established set of rules, that's it... there is no more argument. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I have to agree with what you said. Although not just Steve, but all mods could enforce this one. It is good to draw a line in the sand, but people should still be able to express their individuality. If someone then crosses the line, they should be informed by the moderators. I also don't agree with it to the extent that if one of the fellas who were kind enough to let their wife/girlfriend pose for the CK5 calendar wanted to put that picture up as their avatar, I think that they should be allowed to do so.

the girls of ck5 calendar pictures are nowhere near as raunchy, if at all from the ones ive seen (i dont have a calendar)... as some of the avatars have gotten to be.. i feel if the picture is TASTEFUL.. it stays.. if at all questionable, crap can it and pick another..

[/ QUOTE ] you know isn't okay and doesn't even need to be brought up. I'm talking about ones Bubba had up. I don't see anything wrong with that, but then again, it's not my call as to what is or isn't okay. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

The problem is, you can't trust people to use the same "common sense" as the person making vague rules (when they expect everyone to follow the spirit of the rule). On a site like this, you WILL have people who intentionally or otherwise violate the "spirit" of a rule. Making rules to govern a group like this is almost like making governmental laws. You have to be perfectly explicit with no room for interpretation, or someone is going to push the limit and defend themselves by saying (even to Steve) that they are "within the rules so they should not be touched". If he (Steve) then forces "his" interpretation, there will be droves of the mindless, "Well he is a paying member so he shouldn't be subjected to this outrage" garbage posts.

I'm totally with Rene on this one, I can't afford to be surprised by the avatar on a post when I'm at work or when kids are around. If I choose to buy I calender I would know what to expect and I wouldn't display it where it would get me in trouble.

Seems a few people are getting out of hand with their avitars being of erotic in nature, please remove all aviatars of people including cartoons etc. if your in dought then you should remove them, if it contines I will simply turn off that option for everyone.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does he mean all avatars of people and cartoons, or does he mean all avatars of people and cartoons that are of erotic nature?
I think that he means that latter, but worded it out of order. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

You know that they can be disabled for the workplace and such, right?

Yep, I've had them (signatures and avatars) disabled for the last couple of months. But they can be pretty cool and help identify who is posting so I would definately be happier if I could have them on all the time and just not have to worry about having stuff that could be considered offensive in a professional environment or around kids.
