ok today i developed some pretty wicked vibes and i got under there and shook the driveshaft. the tailshaft and pinion bearing have play in them.
for this TC bearing i think? is it in the case so i would have to split it halves or would it just be in the tailhousing? and for the pinion bearing i think im just gonna have to go 14sf, i was gonna buy one anyways in the next few days.

so, is this a relatively easy fix for the TC? the output shaft has play in it so im thinking a bearing would be bad? am i on the right track?

problems, this is my DD and i am in school right now. i have got to get this back up by tuesday. also since i am in school it seems i am required to have less than 400 dollars at all times.

If I remember correctly you can replace the tailshaft bearing on a 208 without opening the main case halves. You can just pull of the tailhousing. That can be easier said then done though sometimes. You have to take the speedo gear out of the tailhousing before it will come off also FYI.

Pinion bearing in the axle is alot more involved and more work.

Yup, there is a bearing pressed into the tail housing of the 208 case for the output shaft. There is also a thin sleeve bearing bearing that is pressed in there to locate the slip yoke. If the bearing in the tail housing is bad you should also change the the sleeve bearing.

ok i did both of those things, i replaced the bushing and bearing in the tailhousing. but now ive got up and down play in the TC shaft that the slip slides on to. its tiny but enough to make a noise when i push on it. you can barely see it. and i dont ever remember it doing this before i replaced this stuff. what i saw play in was the cv socket thingy. not the TC shaft.
before it was just the bushing that was wallered out, very wallered out, and the driveshaft. pinion is finished and tight and no play there, also the driveshaft is new. yet its hard to slip on and off, i have to tap it with a hammer a few times.
what did i **** up!?
