My formerly rust free K5 got her cherry popped...

I have a hole where the trim was loose..damn velcro ate right through...

Going to see how big it is when I clean it up. May have to go to horror freight and pick up a mig.
A got a 5" da sander today for 20 bucks.

Need to get some filler and what not.
Last time I tried bodywork was in 1980. It didn't turn out so well lol

Is a 110v flux core mig suitable for basic welding? Don't plan on any major type stuff...

Would a mig with gas be better? I haven't done any welding since A&P school. That was in 89, just some oxy-aceteline and stick welding with an older broken welder stuck on 3/4 power. Me and another guy figured how to tease some decent welds with it. We made stands and carts, just g.p. stuff

I run flux in my 208v because I’m cheap but the welds are strong. For sheet metal I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not structural. Bunch of tack welds. Spread them out and then whack them with a flap wheel to make them flat and be done with it.

Heat is your enemy on sheet metal.
hit it quick and move around, even use some air to cool the area.
Same with a flapwheel, or similar.
watch some of bad chads videos, hes decent about explaining things like this.

My 2 cents, it was less frustrating to control heat with gas and thin wire. Like 0.023, they even sell some that is easy to grind.

If you keep your eyes open on CL, marketplace, etc. perhaps you could find a lincoln 110v with mig/gas capabilities for the same amount as a HF flux core unit.

I 100% agree, plus flux core is messy and splatters a lot.
