Hey all, I have a 87 GMC Jimmy K5 with 342 gears.I need to swap out a bad rear end. What years would fit(whole axel assembly) ? Thanks...

I have a 12 bolt open rear end under my 91 k5 from a mid 70s Chevy half ton, idk about first gen blazers and trucks, but anything 2nd and 3rd gen up to the year 1991 will bolt right in. It wouldn't hurt to purchase some new u bolts either :waytogo:

73-87 1/2 ton pickup
73-91 Blazer
73-91 1/2 ton Suburban

all of these are a direct bolt in whether it's a 10 or 12 bolt rear. Big importance is the 6 lug wheel bolt pattern.

This is right.

Compare your pinion yoke to the axle you're looking to swap in and make sure they are the same (it will be obvious if they aren't).

Just make sure to find an axle with 3.42 gears.

You'll probably end up having to run a conversion U-joint unless the donor diff you find is out of something very similar in year and drivetrain as your truck. My '90 Blazer had a 12 bolt from the '70's under the rear...1310 yoke on the diff, S44 on the driveshaft.

if you dont mind moving spring perches and shock mounts a 6 lug 14blt s.f from the 88 up trucks would be a great upgrade. If i had to go source a rear end its probably what I would toss in.
